Aims<br />

This programme provides you with<br />

Characteristics<br />

Students are by default enrolled on a Major / M<strong>in</strong>or<br />

study pathway.<br />

Depend<strong>in</strong>g on the available places, you can also opt for a<br />

Double Major <strong>in</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g and Design (Advertis<strong>in</strong>g).<br />

<strong>The</strong>re is a wide range of elective subjects.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are visits to Ma<strong>in</strong>land Ch<strong>in</strong>a and overseas<br />

companies and students may make presentations at an<br />

annual market<strong>in</strong>g symposium after such visits<br />

(optional).<br />

Emphasis is placed on practical market<strong>in</strong>g skills and<br />

sound professional knowledge.<br />

Student-centred <strong>in</strong>teractive learn<strong>in</strong>g is encouraged.<br />

For direct work experience before graduation, each<br />

student is required to complete 300 hours (3 tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

credits) of Work-Integrated Education (WIE).<br />

Students are encouraged to participate <strong>in</strong> the Whole<br />

Person Development Programme (WPDP) which<br />

<strong>in</strong>cludes a range of extra-curricular activities such as<br />

leadership tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g camps, peer tutor<strong>in</strong>g, mentorship,<br />

overseas and Ma<strong>in</strong>land Ch<strong>in</strong>a student exchanges.

study is UGC-funded and the fourth year is self-f<strong>in</strong>anced. (4 years; 142 credits).<br />

Career Prospects<br />

Graduates build a professional career <strong>in</strong> account management, advertis<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

market<strong>in</strong>g research, market<strong>in</strong>g / product / brand management, customer<br />

service, public relations, consumer affairs and protection.<br />

Entrance Requirements<br />

For entry with HKALE qualifications, local applicants must satisfy the General M<strong>in</strong>imum Entrance Requirements of the<br />

<strong>University</strong>:<br />

E <strong>in</strong> HKALE Ch<strong>in</strong>ese Literature, or E <strong>in</strong> HKALE (AS-Level) Ch<strong>in</strong>ese Language & Culture, or (for applicants who have not<br />

taken Ch<strong>in</strong>ese s<strong>in</strong>ce Secondary Five) D <strong>in</strong> a HKCEE language other than Ch<strong>in</strong>ese and English;<br />

AND<br />

E <strong>in</strong> HKALE (AS-Level) Use of English;<br />

AND<br />

E <strong>in</strong> two other HKALE subjects, or E <strong>in</strong> one other HKALE subject and two other HKALE (AS-Level) subjects;<br />

AND<br />

E <strong>in</strong> five HKCEE subjects.*<br />

* For attempts at English Language and Ch<strong>in</strong>ese Language <strong>in</strong> 2007 and after, at least Level 2 is required.<br />

Double Major <strong>in</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and Design (Advertis<strong>in</strong>g)<br />

This option is jo<strong>in</strong>tly offered by the Department of Management<br />

and Market<strong>in</strong>g and the School of Design. A student admitted to<br />

the BBA (<strong>Hons</strong>) <strong>in</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g programme (02002–AMK) and<br />

<strong>in</strong>tends to take the four-year double Major option must go<br />

through a selection process for assess<strong>in</strong>g aptitude for design and<br />

other qualities. Application may be supported with a design<br />

portfolio. <strong>The</strong> limited quota will be filled as determ<strong>in</strong>ed by the<br />

two departments.<br />

Characteristics<br />

This Double Major programme is a new option aimed at mak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> a design hub <strong>in</strong> Asia as envisioned by the HKSAR<br />

government. Graduates equipped with both market<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

design expertise are expected to contribute directly to their<br />

employers. Creativity, <strong>in</strong>novation, entrepreneurship, strategic<br />

th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g, customer-orientation and competitive strategy are<br />

some of the ma<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>gredients of the programme.<br />

Aims<br />

Prepare students for a career <strong>in</strong> market<strong>in</strong>g with a strong<br />

design orientation<br />

Make students competent <strong>in</strong> research and analysis, mak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

market<strong>in</strong>g decisions that <strong>in</strong>volve design and monitor<strong>in</strong>g<br />

implementation<br />

Help students learn product <strong>in</strong>novation design and<br />

advertis<strong>in</strong>g through practice<br />

Encourage critical and analytical th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g, enhance bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

acumen and entrepreneurial skills for <strong>in</strong>terfac<strong>in</strong>g design with<br />

other bus<strong>in</strong>ess functions<br />

Increase students’ creative and <strong>in</strong>tellectual abilities and their<br />

appreciation of design<br />

Optional Routes<br />

With satisfactory academic results at the end of Year Three, a<br />

student may decide not to proceed to Year Four and graduate<br />

with a Major <strong>in</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g and a M<strong>in</strong>or <strong>in</strong> Design (Advertis<strong>in</strong>g).<br />

With satisfactory results at the end of Year Four, a student will<br />

graduate with a Major <strong>in</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g and a Major <strong>in</strong> Design<br />

(Advertis<strong>in</strong>g).<br />

Selection Procedures<br />

Students admitted for the BBA (<strong>Hons</strong>) <strong>in</strong> Market<strong>in</strong>g programme<br />

and <strong>in</strong>tend to take this double Major option must lodge an<br />

application before commencement of the academic year. <strong>The</strong><br />

form can be obta<strong>in</strong>ed from the Department of Management and<br />

Market<strong>in</strong>g General Office. <strong>The</strong>re are a limited number of places<br />

available.<br />

<strong>The</strong> selection procedure <strong>in</strong>cludes an aptitude test and / or<br />

portfolio screen<strong>in</strong>g and an <strong>in</strong>terview with applicants meet<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the m<strong>in</strong>imum entrance requirements of the Department of<br />

Management and Market<strong>in</strong>g and the School of Design.<br />

Students enter<strong>in</strong>g this Double Major programme must take at<br />

least 6 credits of Design subjects <strong>in</strong> Year One.<br />

At the end of Year One, the two departments will consider<br />

whether the selected students should cont<strong>in</strong>ue with their option<br />

for Market<strong>in</strong>g and Design.<br />
