Being productive membersof these conversations requiresthat students contribute accurate, relevant information; respond toand develop what others have said;make comparisons and contrasts; andanalyze and synthesize a multitude ofideas in various domains.New technologies have broadenedand expanded the role that speakingand listening play in acquiringand sharing knowledge and havetightened their link to other formsof communication. Digital textsconfront students with the potentialfor continually updated content anddynamically changing combinations ofwords, graphics, images, hyperlinks, and embedded video and audio.COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS for ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 48
