Les mousses du Centre-Ouest nommées Bryum canariense Brid. sont à rapporter à Bryumprovinciale Phil.. DEMARET et WILCZEK ont montré que ces deux taxons ne sont passynonymes (Bull. Jard. bot. nat. Belg., 52 : 231-239, 1982).B. provinciale est une plante plus forte que B. canariense dans toutes ses parties: tige pluslongue (2-3 cm contre 1 cm) ; feuilles plus longues et plus larges (2-3, 75 mm de long sur 1-1,25 mm de large, contre 1,5-2 mm sur 0,55-0,85 mm), à nervure plus large (100-180 mu contre70-130) et rougeâtre, à acumen plus long (150-400 mu contre 100-150), Le tissu est plus largeet poreux (cellules médianes de 16-18 (20) mu de large contre 10-16; cellules basilaires nettementplus larges et plus longues). Les rosettes de feuilles sont tronquées au sommet chez B.canariense alors qu'elles ne le sont pas chez B. provinciale. Ce dernier porte des propagulestubériformes de plus ou moins 200 mu, absents chez l'autre espèce. B. provinciale est autoïqueou synoïque ; B. canariense semble toujours dioïque.En plus de ces observations de DEMARET et WILCZEK, j'ai remarqué que l'acumen courtdes feuilles de B. canariense est dressé, raide, alors que celui de B. provinciale est contournédivariqué;cette différence de longueur et de port permet une approche rapide de distinction.Les feuilles des rosettes sont plus serrées et plus nombreuses chez B. canariense (environ 30contre une vingtaine).2. Dans sa révision du (( Fissidens cressipes-subcomplex » (The Section Pachylomidium(Genus FissidensJ. III : The F. crassipes-subcomplex... Proc. of the Konin. Ned. Akad. vanWet., series C, Vol. 85 (1), 1982 : 59-104), MA BRUGGEMAN-NANNENGA place ensynonymie stricte F. crassipes et F. mildeanus. Elle isole F. warnstorfii Fleisch. comme sousespècede F. crassipes. La subsp. warnstorfii se distingue essentiellement par ses feuillesoblongues, à pointe obtuse ou largement aiguë, souvent avec un petit apicule, ses archégonesde (260) 280-420 (450) mu de long, ses dents du péristome de 37-49 (60) mu de large. F.crassipes subsp. crassipes a généralement des feuilles elliptiques-aiguës, les archégones pluslongs (420-660 mu), les dents du péristome plus larges(51-86 mu). La subsp. warnstorfii a
