Mencap’s Segal House providesearly childhood intervention forchildren with a learning disability2010.053 NI Segal House Nursery leaflet v4.indd 1 24/06/2010 11:46

What we doMencap’s Segal House nursery is the only place of its kindwhere very young children with a learning disability and theirparents can get specialist help and support. The nursery isrun in partnership with the Belfast Health and Social CareTrust (BHSCT).For childrenEarly intervention is essential to improve the life chancesof children with a learning disability. At Segal House,we ensure your child can learn and play in a therapeuticenvironment. This will help them develop and achieve thingsthat would not be possible without specialist expertiseand support. The children are assessed by physiotherapists, speechand language therapists and occupational therapists. An individual programme plan is then developed for eachchild in consultation with the parents. The children are eachassigned a keyworker who will then input the programmeinto the curriculum and daily routine of the classroom. For parents and familiesSegal House is as much a place for parents as children. We understand that when parents come into contact withMencap through Segal House they are still adjusting to thefact that their child may have a lifelong disability. This canbe a very traumatic and challenging time.2010.053 NI Segal House Nursery leaflet v4.indd 2 24/06/2010 11:46
