Through its economic policy, the province of <strong>Styria</strong> strengthens clusters<br />

and networks. The aim is to raise independency of prevailing<br />

economic conditions through “innovation as standard”. One of the<br />

most innovative and successful networks within the province of <strong>Styria</strong><br />

is the environmental technology network ECO WORLD STYRIA.<br />

Member companies doubled their acceleration in 2006 with a leap in<br />

turnover of around 15 percent to 1.7 billion euros and recorded a substantial<br />

growth in the number of employees. The <strong>Styria</strong>n Business Promotion Agency will in<br />

future acknowledge such successful trends with an environmental incentive.<br />

The 120 participating companies of ECO WORLD STYRIA share a common vision:<br />

leadership in energy and environmental technology.<br />

Located in what is the pioneering area of Europe when it comes to solar energy<br />

utilisation, whilst also possessing the highest density of biomass-powered local heating<br />

networks and an outstanding recycling rate of 70%, these companies had already<br />

dedicated themselves to climate and environmental protection decades ago.<br />

The products exported worldwide in the year 2006 alone reduced annual greenhouse<br />

gas emissions by a further 6.3 million tonnes of CO 2 – that equates to almost half of<br />

<strong>Styria</strong>n emissions.<br />

Driven by the vision of leadership in innovation and technology in biomass, solar energy,<br />

material flow management and water / wastewater, they are already defining tomorrow’s<br />

standards today. These participating companies of ECO WORLD STYRIA offer you topranking,<br />

In 2006, with their green technologies,<br />

the ECO participating<br />

companies achieved a dramatic<br />

growth in turnover of around<br />

15 % to € 1.7 billion, thereby<br />

growing faster than the market.<br />

Energy and environmental technology<br />

is also a substantial<br />

engine for employment, with a<br />

gain of 12.6 % to 10,700 people.<br />

Both aspects underline the<br />

rapid acceleration in an area of<br />

strength with a highly concentrated<br />

presence in <strong>Styria</strong>.<br />

The ECO WORLD STYRIA<br />

network has the task of<br />
