And from July 9-11, theCommission was instrumental in facilitatingLittle Rock’s hosting of the Under Armour CollegeBass National Championship.Another Chamber initiative, the Little RockFilm Commission, partnered with the AEDC’sArkansas Film Commission to facilitate its firstproductions, “Resurrection County” (independentfeature film), “America’s Most Wanted” (networktelevision series) and “Beyond Productions”(television pilot).MembershipThis globally competitive Chamber didn’t justhappen. With Executive Vice President GaryNewton’s achieving the Certified ChamberJay ChesshirGary NewtonExecutive (CCE) designation, he and Presidentand CEO Jay Chesshir now give the Little RockRegional Chamber the second-highest percentageof CCEs of any Chamber staff in the nation.In addition to his service on the United StatesChamber of Commerce’s Committee of 100,Chesshir was named to achairman’s one-year termon the American Chamberof Commerce Executives(ACCE) Board of Directorsduring the group’s Augustconvention in Pittsburgh. Inaddition, Director of HumanResources Judy Knod’sJudy Knod25 years of service in theprofession were honored by ACCE at the event.On April 3, Director of Business Retentionand Expansion Kristi Barr graduated from theUniversity of Oklahoma Economic DevelopmentJoey DeanKristi BarrInstitute. Barr joined Jay Chesshir and EconomicDevelopment Vice President Joey Dean as graduatesof the institute. With Vice President ofPublic Policy Lucas Hargraves and Gary Newtonset to graduate in March, the Little Rock RegionalChamber will soon have one of the highestpercentages of Economic Development Institutegraduates of any Chamber in the nation.Chamber publications continued to be honoredby peer organizations. The 2006 Annual Reportwas not only named Best in Arkansas but wasalso designated as the country’s fourth best by theACCE, the highest of any internally produced reportin the nation. During the year, the Chamberproduced 16 separate publications, as well as 47issues of the weekly Business E-Newsletter.Member-centered programming didn’t justhappen. The Chamber offered meaningfulvolunteer opportunities in 22 groups for 827member representatives. Over 233 events and238 meetings had a minimum recorded attendanceof 16,697.The Chamber’s online presence also continuedits record growth. Website page views reached479,210 for 2008, a 6.4 percent increase over lastyear. Total searches in the online directory wereup 2 percent to 220,199. And online memberreferrals increased 21.6 percent to 81,675.The Chamber’s Ambassadors cut ribbons, brokeground or conducted grand openings for a record138 member businesses/organizations. In addition,Ambassador-coordinated events — BusinessAfter Hours, Taste of the Rock, The Ambassador:Little Rock Regional Chamber Golf Tournament— were attended by a recorded 3,289 Chambermember representatives and guests.The Chamber’s five Leads Groups had recordedattendance of 2,021 members and guests. A record2,457 exchanges accounted for $5,502,530.96 inreported business by members, a more than 150percent increase over last year’s record.Two events premiered during the year. On Oct.22, in partnership with Arkansas Business, theChamber successfully launched Commerce Arkansas:A Knowledge & Networking Experience.On July 19, a sold-out Bowling for Businessdebuted to raves.In its 24th year, Leadership Greater Little Rockgraduated 51 from Class XXIII and tapped 48for Class XXIV.This nationally and internationally recognizedsuccess didn’t just happen. In fact, none of itwould have been possible without Chambermembers’ past and continued investment.
