About Societies/ EFORTabout EFORTEFORT was established by the national associations for orthopaedics and traumatology of 20 European countries. The federation wasfounded in Marentino, Italy, in 1991, and now has over 40 national member societies from more than 35 member countries, as well as fourassociate scientific members. EFORT is established as a non-profit organisation, and all funds are used exclusively in the pursuit of thefederation’s aim.“EFORT works on behalf of the European orthopaedic and traumatology community to restore and secure mobility, musculoskeletal healthand quality of life.”EFORT will achieve its mission and vision through becoming a reference point in musculo-skeletal diseases and injuries and through raisingawareness at the EU and global level and across European patient organizations.To fulfil its objectives, EFORT organises an annual congress, a comprehensive advanced training programme (the ATP), and is present atmajor European conferences. It also issues a series of scientific publications, including the “European Orthopaedics and Traumatology”(EOTR) journal, book series and IL (Instructional Lecture) books.With its annual congress, EFORT offers an international stage for the latest developments in the field of musculoskeletal disease and trauma,and constitutes a unique platform for surgeons, physicians and allied healthcare professionals to absorb and track the latest scientificfindings. Following last year’s success and as a partner of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012,we will feature again an EU political symposium entitled “Europe on the move – promoting active and healthy ageing”. Furthermore asession on “Injury Prevention” will underline the importance of the initiative Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.The ATP is a series of specialised courses taking place throughout the year. Its objective is to improve and harmonise training standardswith its member organisations and specialty societies. Newly introduced, the “BAT Educational Programme” is complementing the rangeof EFORT’s educational programme. The acronym BAT stands for Basic Courses, Advanced Courses and Traumatology Courses, implying thatthe curriculum is comprised of a module of two basic courses in combination with one on traumatology. The aim of this programme is tofoster a problem-solving approach in the diagnosis and management of musculo-skeletal conditions.
