LSB LARGE SQUARE BALERSCritical Baling Technologies3v• The forced, aggressive integral rotor with large, heavy-duty flighting is manufactured with or without a cropcutting device. This integral rotor system provides the baler with even feeding regardless of crop conditions.• The unique Power Density pre-chamber intake design allows each flake, from beginning to end, to fill completelyfrom top to bottom, resulting in perfectly-shaped bales every time.• This perfectly-filled bale is tied together by the simple, but reliable, TWIN-STEP® Knotting system.• The simple and durable design of the KUHN LSB balers allows for fewer moving parts, unmatched crop flow, and outstanding performance and dependability.

www.kuhn.comKey FeaturesSimple technology that produces rock-hard, super-dense, well-shaped bales.Integral Rotor - The aggressive design provides maximumefficiency, with high-performance throughput in all cropconditions.Cam clutch protection - Main intake functions are protectedby a series of convenient clutches instead of shear bolts.Power Density - This pre-chamber design allows thebaler to adapt to changing windrows for uniform flakesand a consistent bale.Plunger - Extreme-duty, 125 mm (5”) plunger bearingsand hardened rails are standard on all KUHN LSB models.TWIN-STEP® Knotting - The patented system instantlyreleases the tension on the twine, providing increasedreliability and trouble-free knotting.ISOBUS - This feature is standard on the LSB and thetractor’s existing ISOBUS monitor can be used if available.LSB 8702 x 3LSB 8903 x 3470 x 80 cm80 x 80 cm90 x 80 cmLSB 1270 LSB 12902 x 43 x 470 x 120 cm 80 x 120 cm 90 x 120 cm

LSB INTAKEExcellent Intake Performance5Integral Rotor TechnologyLarge-diameter, heavy-duty auger flighting is incorporated directly ontothe outer sections of the rotor, which is called Integral Rotor Technology. This simple, maintenance-free, short-distance intake system ensures evenfeeding regardless of variations in the crop. With this system, even the heaviest of crops are force-fed through theshort intake, resulting in higher forward speeds for outstandingproductivity and less crop damage.Non-cutting, OptiFeed Integral Rotor for all LSB modelsOptiCutOn the LSB 870 & 890,a theoretical cutting length of70mm (2¾”) can be achieved byutilizing 10 individual, springsecuredknives. These knives canbe activated directly from yourtractor seat.10-knife, OptiCut Integral Rotor

www.kuhn.comOmniCutOmniCutIn place of the standard non-cutting integral rotor, KUHN offers theOmniCut Integral Rotor on LSB 1270 & 1290 models. This largediameter,V-shaped intake rotor takes the crop directly from the pickup, cutting and spreading it evenly toward the pre-chamber.Knife selectionWhen crop cutting is required, different sets of knives can be activatedusing a simple hydraulic valve. Standing next to the baler, the operatorcan select 0, 11, 12 , or 23 knives for use. (45 mm or 1¾” theoreticalcutting length) Every single knife is hydraulically protected againstdamage from foreign objects.Quick, easy accessAfter lowering the cassette frame that holds the 23 knives, it can simplybe pulled out on the right hand side of the baler.6Simple knife maintenanceInspecting and removing the knives to sharpen or change them isquick, clean and easy. Spare knives can be safely stored within reach. No toolsKnives can be removed and changed in minutes, without any tools. When cutting is not required, blind knives can be easily inserted tokeep from plugging the knife slots.Inspection doorEvery LSB baler has an inspection door on the bottom of the prechamber, providing clear access to the pre-chamber area.

LSB INTAKEPower Density7The Power Densitysystem ensuresconsistently-filledflakes and rock-hardbales by constantly adapting toever-changing windrow conditions.Whether baling a small, first-cuttingalfalfa crop or a large, bulky strawcrop, and whether baling anuneven windrow produced by acombine harvester or a uniformwindrow produced by a rotarymower, the results are the same, consistency in every flake, forrock-hard, box-shaped bales. These consistent results mean lowercosts for bale handling, twine andfuel, plus a more attractive bale tofeed or sell. With the Power Density system, crop is directly removed from theIntegral Rotor by the single-feederfork (red). This single-feeder forkworks at twice the speed of theplunger, continuously clearing theentrance of the pre-chamber andpre-compressing the crop into aflake. As the pre-chamber is filledto 100%, pressure is exerted onthe wedges (white) at the top ofthe pre-chamber. At a set point, the pressure on the wedges isovercome, triggering the singlefeederfork to take an extendedstroke, sweeping the precompressedflake up into the balechamber where the plungercompresses the crop to form adense bale.

www.kuhn.comControl in ComfortISOBUSAll KUHN LSB balers are ISOBUS compatible. ISOBUS compatibletractors will therefore not require a separate control box for the baler.Alternatively, the Focus or CCI monitor can be used with tractors thatare not ISOBUS compatible. Operator settings, such as bale density andknife activation, are accessed via the monitor. Operator warnings, such as overload and twine routing, and operator information, including flakes per bale and number of bales, are also provided.8CCIThe ISOBUS compatible CCI monitor has a large, color screen withoutstanding clarity. Baling adjustments can be easily made via thetouchscreen or by use of the intuitive, large, soft-touch keys. The CCImonitor can also be used with many other ISOBUS compatible machines.FocusThe Focus monitor offers total control on a wide, clear monochromedisplay. With large, soft-touch buttons, baling adjustments can be easilymade from the comfort of the tractor cab. The Focus monitor providesall information needed for operation of the baler as well as warningsin case of errors.FOCUSICC

LSB NON STOP BALINGHigh Performance and Low Maintenance9PlungerEvery KUHN plunger and bale chamber is engineered to producerock-hard, ultra-dense bales. KUHN LSB balers have a 3m (10’) balechamber, with hydraulic cilinders mounted at the rear of the bale chamberto completely enclose the bale. This design applies maximum leverageon the bale during formation, and prevents unwanted expansion andloss of density before the bale is finished. The plunger is rocketed at 46strokes/minute via the main gearbox. This high-speed plunger requiresprecise, heavy-duty guidance, which is provided by hardened rails andenormous 125mm/5” diameter) support rollers. The roller bearings aremounted outside the bale chamber and are easily accessible for inspectionand maintenance. LSB 890 and 1290 models offer an adjustable balechamber that gives the customer the option to produce two different balesizes with the same baler.GreasingThe standard and easy-to-reach central greasing points on top of thebaler provide lubrication for the knotters and plunger. Equipping thebaler with an automatic greasing system reduces daily maintenance.Basic setting and monitoring of this system are doneusing the ISOBUS control.Hydraulic systemAll KUHN LSB balers have their own, on-board hydraulic system, independent from the tractor’s hydraulics. The hydraulic pressure onthe 3m (10’) bale chamber is controlled and monitored through theISOBUS terminal. In case of an overload, the ISOBUS software willregulate the pressure automatically to prevent damage to the baler.

www.kuhn.comClutchesKUHN LSB balers feature full clutch protection for all intakecomponents, eliminating the need for shear bolts and the time wastedreplacing them. The pickup, Integral Rotor and feeder fork areprotected by cam-type torque limiters, which are automaticallyactivated in case of an overload. Each clutch is located as close aspossible to the parts it protects. In case of an overload, the affectedcam clutch is activated and the intake is stopped. The clutch re-engages when the operator reduces the PTO speed. The intake system then works at a low speed and high torque to clearthe plug automatically before normal baling resumes, usuallyeliminating the need for the operator to leave the cab.10Feeder fork protection clutchIntergal Rotor protection clutch

LSBSTRESS-FREE KNOTTINGTWIN-STEP® KnottingThe well-proven TWIN-STEP®Knotting system providesdependable tying without stresson the twine. With this system, areliable knot is made in two steps.vDuring the knotting process, the tension on the twine is releasedfor rapid and smooth knotting.Every individual knotter isprotected with a shear bolt, which provides added securityfor the baler and prevents costlydamage to the knotter andunwanted downtime.11TWIN-STEP® KnottingWhile baling, the knotters (blue) are at rest and the twine is guided bythe twine tension release lever (red), in the vertical position. Tension isheld on the twine to ensure maximum density in the bale.Step 1: As the bale reaches its desired length, the needles (grey) areactivated and go upwards towards the knotters to start the knottingcycle.Step 2: The twine tension release lever (red) rotates backwards toreduce the distance the twine travels and reduce tension on the knotter. This results in a stress free knot!

www.kuhn.comGreasingWith easy-to-access grease banks for the knotter and plunger, and anoptional automatic greasing system, daily inspection and maintenanceare reduced to a minimum.Cleaning fansHigh throughput fans are used to keep the knotting area as clean aspossible. Time intervals for running the fans are completely adjustablethrough the baler control monitor in the tractor cab. The fans aremounted to the knotter hood to allow easy access to the knotter areafor service and maintenance.12Easy accessBehind the full-access side doors, 24 spools of twine can be stored, enough for a long working day. The twine storage itself is enclosed toprevent twine rolls from being contaminated with material, which couldcause mis-ties. For service and maintenance, the twine storage boxcan be hinged to the side for easy access to the baler components.
