For detail of the process pleaserefer to students.curtin.edu.au/rights/appeals/Appeals against assessment donot incur a fee and must be lodgedwithin ten (10) working days of theofficial publication of final results. It isimportant that students understandan appeal can result in the assessmentmark being adjusted either up, down, orremain the same.The application form is available on the<strong>Curtin</strong> website link aboveFor non-academic grievances/complaints see the section on ConflictResolutions in this guide.Continuous AssessmentAssignments are set by the lecturerat regular intervals. You must submitthe assignments by the deadlines orget approval from the local lecturerfor late submissions. Extensions forassignments will only be granted inspecial circumstances such as illness.Deferred AssessmentA “DA” interim result is the formalapproval by the Board of Examiners fora student to complete an outstandingassessment task for a unit at a laterdate; outstanding assessment tasks caninclude an examination, assignment orother work.Deferment of assessment is notautomatic. Students may bepermitted by the relevant Board ofExaminers to defer an examinationor other assessment where there arecircumstances outside of their control:• a student’s overall performancemay be taken into account ingiving permission to defer anexamination;• applications for deferment onhealth grounds or as a result ofextenuating (not predictable)circumstances must be submittedno later than five (5) working daysafter the examination or afterthe due date of the assessment.Where appropriate, medicalcertificates should be attached tothe application;• dates of deferred examinations arelisted in your course materials;• a student who does not sit for thescheduled deferred exam has noclaim to a further examination.An ‘Application for a DeferredAssessment’ must be lodged with yourlocal Unit Coordinator BEFORE the duedate of the assessment task/exam. Theonly exception is where your personalcircumstances (e.g. illness) haveprevented this; however you will needto supply documentation that clearlysupports your explanation within five(5) working days of the due date ofassessment.
