Order of Events
Arrival
Firstly, your photographer is likely to wish to take a few photographs privately with the
Bride and Bridegroom and immediate family whilst your guests enjoy a welcome drink.
Receiving the guests
The official line up usually consists of:
The Bride’s mother
The Bride’s father
The bridegroom’s mother
The Bridegroom’s father
The Bridesmaids
The Bride
The Bridegroom
The Best Man
Cutting the Cake
The cake may be cut at the beginning or towards the end of the meal.
Regardless, the cake may be distributed to your guests with coffee.
Grace
This is optional in accordance with your wishes and is generally said either
by the Bride’s father or an invited clergyman.
Order of Speeches and Toasts
This is the traditional order but may be altered according to your preference.
This also can be at the beginning or the end of the meal:
The Bride’s Father
The toast is generally proposed to the Bride and Groom following a short address
The Bridegroom
Responds and takes the opportunity to say the ‘thank yous’ and concludes with a toast to the Bridesmaids.
The Best Man
Responds on behalf of the Bridesmaids, generally making a lighthearted and often humourous speech.
The toast may be to the Bride’s and Bridegroom’s parents. A selection of cards and greetings may be read.
