Properties and characteristics of IR fusion joints<br />

Non-contact heating<br />

The components being joined are heated uniformly and<br />

without contact to the ideal fusion temperature by<br />

infrared radiation.<br />

A defined gap between the heating element and the end<br />

faces minimises the risk of contamination of the jointing<br />

surface. Contamination of the heating element by plastic<br />

particles is thus also eliminated.<br />

Reduced bead formation<br />

The fusion bead produced during jointing is considerably<br />

reduced without any loss of quality. Bead-forming<br />

equalisation is eliminated by non-contact softening of the<br />

end faces. The minimal, defined bead is only formed<br />

during the jointing process. The fusion area thus has<br />

improved flow dynamics, low clearance volume and<br />

greater throughput area.<br />

Reproducible jointing processes<br />

The jointing path controls the jointing pressure and thus<br />

the fusion process. The high reproducibility of the joints<br />

is assured by the clearly defined and controlled process<br />

sequence.<br />

Clear, simple operator guidance<br />

Clear, unambiguous operator guidance via the liquid<br />

crystal display leads the user interactively through the<br />

fusion process in logical operating steps.<br />

Welding report/traceability<br />

The welding parameters for the relevant welding<br />

operations can be read out directly via various interfaces<br />

on the machine. It is possible to print these out on paper<br />

(commercially available printers), on labels or to employ<br />

electronic data output (PCMCIA card).<br />

This automatically provides an accurate record with all<br />

the essential fusion parameters for each individual<br />

fusion joint.<br />
