lecture on conservation of gorillas in central Africa,
“Giving a presentation to local community members
sparked and renewed my own excitement about my
research. We must transmit information to the public for
our research to have maximum benefit to society.”
Whether it is Hyner or Remis—or psychologist Thomas
Berndt speaking about friendships in childhood, historian
Raymond Dumett talking about ruins in Zimbabwe, or
political scientist Louis Beres speaking about the effects of
terrorism on business—SLA faculty members are going
out to communities and sharing their expertise. In fact,
more than 130 presentations have been given since
the program began in the 2002–03 academic year.
Professor Gerald Hyner
shares his research
findings and knowledge
of health and activity
with YMCA leaders
from the Portage,
Indiana, area.
If you would like to recommend an Indiana organization
that would benefit from a presentation
by an SLA professor or staff member,
at no charge, on a topic of your choice,
please contact Associate Dean Howard
Zelaznik at (765) 494-3666 or e-mail him at
