MEMORANDUM FOR DISTRIBUTION 7 Mar 11
SUBJECT: Special Interoperability Test Certification of Tadiran Coral Flexicom TM 200, 400, and
5000 and Tadiran Coral Internet Protocol Exchange (IPx) 800 and 3000 with
Software Release 15.85 Build 43
References: (a) DoD Directive 4630.05, “Interoperability and Supportability of Information
Technology (IT) and National Security Systems (NSS),” 5 May 2004
(b) CJCSI 6212.01E, “Interoperability and Supportability of Information
Technology and National Security Systems,” 15 December 2008
(c) through (f), see Enclosure 1
1. References (a) and (b) establish the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Joint
Interoperability Test Command (JITC), as the responsible organization for interoperability test
certification.
2. Tadiran Coral Flexicom TM 5000 is hereinafter referred to as the system under test (SUT). The
SUT meets all of its critical interoperability requirements and is certified for joint use within the
Defense Information System Network (DISN) as a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) 1 and
Private Branch Exchange (PBX) 2. The Tadiran Coral Flexicom TM product family, which
includes the Coral Flexicom TM 200, and Flexicom TM 400, and the Coral IPx product family,
which includes the IPx 800 and IPx 3000, employ the exact same processor, software, and
trunk/line card hardware as the SUT. The only difference between the product families is the
Flexicom TM switches are housed in either a wall mount or free-standing housing and the Coral
IPx switches are rack mounted. JITC analysis determined the Coral Flexicom TM 200,
Flexicom TM 400, Coral IPx 800, and Coral IPx 3000 to be functionally identical to the SUT for
interoperability certification purposes, and they are also certified for joint use within the DISN.
No other configurations, features, or functions, except those cited within this report, are certified
by the JITC. This certification expires upon changes that could affect interoperability, but no
later than three years from the date of Defense Information Assurance (IA)/Security
Accreditation Working Group (DSAWG) accreditation.
3. This finding is based on interoperability testing, review of the vendor’s Letters of Compliance
(LoC), and DSAWG accreditation. Interoperability testing of the SUT was conducted at JITC’s
Global Information Grid Network Test Facility at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, from 9 through 27
August 2010. Review of vendor’s LoC was completed on 1 September 2010. Regression testing
of open TDR fixes was conducted on 2 November 2010. DSAWG granted accreditation on

CERTIFICATION TESTING SUMMARY
1. SYSTEM TITLE. Tadiran Coral Flexicom TM 200, 400, and 5000 and Tadiran Coral
Internet Protocol Exchange (IPx) 800 and 3000 with Software Release 15.85 Build 43;
hereinafter referred to as the System Under Test (SUT).
2. PROPONENT. Hill Air Force Base Space and Missile Systems Center.
3. PROGRAM MANAGER. Mr. Roger Garcia, CD023, 7879 Wardleigh Road, Hill Air
Force Base, Utah, 84506, E-mail: roger.garcia@csd.disa.mil.
4. TESTER. Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC), Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
5. SYSTEM UNDER TEST DESCRIPTION. The Tadiran Coral Flexicom TM product
family, which includes the Coral Flexicom TM 200, and Flexicom TM 400, Flexicom TM 5000,
and the Coral Internet Protocol Exchange (IPx) product family, which includes the IPx
800 and IPx 3000, employ the exact same processor, software, and trunk/line card
hardware. The only difference between the product families is the Flexicom TM switches
are housed in either a wall mount or freestanding housing and the Coral IPx switches
are rack mounted. The Tadiran Coral Flexicom TM 5000 was the system tested;
however, JITC analysis determined the Coral Flexicom TM 200, Flexicom TM 400, Coral
IPx 800, and Coral IPx 3000 to be functionally identical to the SUT for interoperability
certification purposes. The SUT and respective product family switches offer Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP); however, VoIP was not tested and is not covered under this
certification. The Coral FlexiCom TM and IPx systems provide scalability and flexibility
serving offices needing as few as 20 ports to large enterprises needing 5,000 ports.
The Coral FlexiCom TM and Coral IPx family of switches supports advanced applications
such as automatic call distribution, call center capabilities, open system Computer
Telephony Integration, multi-media messaging, and integrated voice mail, however
none of these features were tested and are therefore not covered under this
certification. The Coral FlexiCom TM and Coral IPx family of switches support a dual bus
architecture, which removes any single point of failure by splitting communications into
two paths. The features and comparison of the Coral FlexiCom TM and Coral IPx family
of switches covered under this certification are listed below:
Coral FlexiCom TM 200 (supports up to 200 ports)
• 32-bit processor (Main Enhanced Processor)
• 1 to 3 cabinets – 50 x 41 x 20 centimeters (cm)
• Wall or rack mounted
• Optional internal battery support for power failure operation
Coral FlexiCom TM 400 (supports up to 384 ports)
• 32-bit processor (Main Enhanced Processor)
• 1 cabinet - 56 x 87 x 34 cm
• Wall-mounted

• 48 volts Direct Current (vDC) input (Optional battery support for power failure
operation)
Coral FlexiCom TM 5000 (supports up to 5000 ports)
• 32-bit processor (Duplex Main Enhanced Processors)
• 1 to 5 cabinets
- 3 shelves - 152 x 89 x 52 cm
- 4 shelves - 187 x 89 x 52 cm
• 48 vDC input (Optional battery support for power failure operation)
• Optional duplicate common control
Coral IPx 800 (supports up to 800 ports)
• 32-bit processor (Main Enhanced Processor)
• Rack-mounted design
• Up to 30 universal card slots or 3 cages
• Operates from a standard 100-240 volts Alternating Current (vAC) 47-63Hertz
(Hz) power source, or from a 48 vDC stationary battery
Coral IPx 3000 (supports up to 3000 ports)
• 32-bit processor (Duplex Main Enhanced Processor)
• Rack-mounted design
• Up to 178 universal card slots or 16 cages
• Operates from a standard 100-240vAC 47-63Hz power source, or from a 48
vDC stationary battery
6. OPERATIONAL ARCHITECTURE. The Defense Switched Network (DSN)
architecture is a two-level network hierarchy consisting of DSN backbone switches and
Service/Agency installation switches. Joint Staff policy and subscriber mission
requirements determine which type of switch can be used at a particular location. The
DSN architecture, therefore, consists of several categories of switches including PBXs.
The Unified Capabilities Requirements (UCR) operational DSN Architecture is depicted
in Figure 2-1. The architecture depicts the relationship of Military Department PBX 1s to
the other DSN switch types.
NOTE: The SUT was initially tested with the UDT card with firmware version 52.51. The UDT card is designed to dynamically
sense the distant end switch protocol and automatically configure itself to match the distant end switch protocol. This card with
firmware version 52.51 fails to dynamically sense the distant end switches protocol and instead always configures itself for NI1
as opposed to NI2. This causes the D-Channel to constantly fail due to the mismatch in protocols between the SUT and the
distant end switch. The solution to this issue was to downgrade the UDT cards on the SUT to the previous firmware version
52.34. The SUT was then tested again with firmware version 52.34 without further issue. The SUT is certified with firmware
version 52.34 only.
10. TESTING LIMITATIONS. None.
11. TEST RESULTS
a. Discussion
(1) DSN Trunk Interfaces. The SUT met all critical CRs and FRs for the ISDN
PRI National ISDN (NI) 1/2 (American National Standards Institute [ANSI] T1.619a)
interface with the following minor exception: The SUT does not support Non Facility
Associated Signaling (NFAS) on their T1 ISDN PRI NI2. This was previously
adjudicated by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) as having a minor
operational impact.
(2) DSN Line Interfaces. The SUT met all critical interoperability certification
requirements for 2-Wire Loop Start Analog (GR-506-CORE) and 2-Wire Proprietary
Digital.
(3) Features and Capabilities
(a) Common Features. The SUT met all critical interoperability certification
requirements for Common Features with the following minor exception: The SUT does
not support the following non-critical features: Conference Calling, Call Transfer - Add-
On to Fully Restricted Station, Call Transfer – Attendant, Conference Calling - Six Way
Station Controlled, and Call pick-up. These are not required features for a PBX 1.
(b) Attendant. This feature is not supported by the SUT and is not
required for a PBX 1.
(c) Public Safety. The SUT met all critical CRs and FRs for Basic 911.
(d) Conferencing. This feature is not supported by the SUT and is not
required for a PBX 1.
(e) Nailed-up Connections. This feature is not supported by the SUT and
is not required for a PBX 1.
(f) DSN Hotline Services. This feature is not supported by the SUT and is
not required for a PBX 1.
(g) Multi-Level Precedence and Preemption (MLPP). The SUT met all
critical CRs and FRs.
(h) Call Processing. Met all critical CRs and FRs.
2-13

(i) ISDN Services. The SUT met all critical CRs and FRs for T1 PRI with
the following minor exception: The SUT does not support NFAS on their T1 ISDN PRI
NI2. This was previously adjudicated by DISA as having a minor operational impact.
(j) Synchronization. The SUT met all critical CRs and FRs. The SUT
supports line timing mode and Internal Stratum 4 for synchronization.
(k) Reliability. The SUT was initially tested with the UDT card with
firmware version 52.51. The UDT card is designed to dynamically sense the distant end
switch protocol and automatically configure itself to match the distant end switch
protocol. This card with firmware version 52.51 fails to dynamically sense the distant
end switches protocol and instead always configures itself for NI1 as opposed to NI2.
This causes the D-Channel to constantly fail due to the mismatch in protocols between
the SUT and the distant end switch. The solution to this issue was to downgrade the
UDT cards on the SUT to the previous firmware version 52.34. The SUT was then
tested again with firmware version 52.34 without further issue. The SUT is certified with
firmware version 52.34 only.
(l) Network Management. This feature is not supported by the SUT. This
is not a required feature for a PBX 1.
(m) Security. Security is tested by DISA-led Information Assurance test
teams and published in a separate report, Reference (c).
(4) Network Gateways. The SUT met all critical interoperability certification
requirements for the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) Network Gateways
with the T1 ISDN PRI, Loop Start Line, and Ground Start Line interfaces.
b. System Interoperability Results. The SUT is certified for joint use in the DISN
as a PBX 1 and PBX 2 in accordance with the requirements set forth in the UCR. The
interoperability test summary is shown in Table 2-3. The SUT Interoperability
Requirements/Status is shown in Table 2-4.
Table 2-4. SUT Interoperability Requirements/Status (continued)
NOTES:
1 This interface is not supported by the SUT and is not required for a PBX 1.
2 The SUT does not support NFAS on their T1 ISDN PRI NI2. This was previously adjudicated by DISA as having a minor operational impact.
3 This feature is not supported by the SUT and is not required for a PBX 1.
4 The SUT was initially tested with the UDT card with firmware version 52.51. The UDT card is designed to dynamically sense the distant end switch protocol and automatically configure
itself to match the distant end switch protocol. This card with firmware version 52.51 fails to dynamically sense the distant end switches protocol and instead always configures itself for
NI1 as opposed to NI2. This causes the D-Channel to constantly fail due to the mismatch in protocols between the SUT and the distant end switch. The solution to this issue was to
downgrade the UDT cards on the SUT to the previous firmware version 52.34. The SUT was then tested again with firmware version 52.34 without further issue. The SUT is certified
with firmware version 52.34 only.
5 This requirement is a non-testable requirement. It is the responsibility of the respective base/post/camp/station communications agency to provide this with the SUT when installed.
6 Security is tested by DISA-led Information Assurance test teams and published in a separate report, Reference (c).
