THANKSGIVING MASS
Friday 22 nd FEBRUARY 2013 - MPF
9.00am in the MPF - Special Guest Speakers & 9.30am - Mass begins
This Friday 22 nd February, marks the 50th Anniversary of the Opening of the
College by Bishop Hugh Ryan in 1963. We will celebrate this auspicious occasion as a
College by celebrating Mass together as a community. We are fortunate that Bishop
Michael Putney will be available to celebrate this Thanksgiving Mass for us.
The Thanksgiving Mass has been advertised to begin at 9.30am, however we have
special guest speakers including Francesca Rush, who is a past student, graduating in
1983, and Sr Patty Fawkner sgs, who will represent the Good Samaritan Sisters, who
were the original founders of the College.
It will be a truly wonderful occasion and parents and past students are invited to
attend.
BISHOP MICHAEL LAUNCHES PROJECT
COMPASSION 2013
Tuesday last week, Swetha Hickman, Lily Mitchell and
Catharina Offermans attended the Diocesan Launch of Project
Compassion which was held at Marian School. Bishop Michael
Putney launched the annual appeal and thanked families in
Catholic schools for their support of the valuable work which
Caritas continues to do in responding to the needs of some of the
most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the world.
Last Wednesday, Ash Wednesday, we marked the beginning of
Lent with prayer and ritual where ashes were placed on our
foreheads to remind us that we also need to make changes and
so be revitalized in our love for ourselves and our neighbour. The
season of Lent invites us into a time of reflection, transformation
and conversion as we seek healing for the brokenness of our
world and its people.
Each class has a Project Compassion box and students are
encouraged to be generous this Lent so that the money they
raise can support a Caritas Australia project.
$5 could buy a chicken for Matuba Children’s Centre, to raise and sell to provide
food, medical supplies and school uniforms for children in Mozambique
$10 could provide a family with a water filter to access clean, safe water and reduce
waterborne diseases in Cambodia.
$30 could provide materials, reference books and resources for skills training for one
person for a year in Papua New Guinea
$50 could provide a bicycle for a young person to travel to school and to use for work
in Cambodia
$100 could buy a box of materials for children to learn carpentry at the Matuba
Children’s Centre in Mozambique.
HOMEWORK and TUTORIAL PROGRAMME
A number of our teachers give generously of their time to provide extra help for our students. The “Homework
Programme” is based in the Library and some teachers provide general assistance for students who stay to work
in the Library at this time. Other teachers provide tutorial assistance in their subject areas. It is important for your
daughter to remember that she can attend any of the tutorials in a particular subject area, not only those run by
her teacher.
An electronic copy of the schedule for our Homework and Tutorial Programme for Semester 1 is available with
this newsletter. Important reminders about attending tutorials and about accessing school files from home are
also included. Your daughter received a printed copy of this tutorial timetable handout in Homeroom on Monday.
