otating basins monitoring program. Under this plan approximately 100 sites are
selected each year for monthly monitoring. This rotational program allows LDEQ to
adequately monitor the water bodies of the state with available resources. In addition,
21 sites on 16 water bodies are monitored every month of every year as long-term trend
sites. One such site has been established in Bayou Lafourche below the weir at
Thibodeaux. Monthly data has been collected at site 0293 since 1991. In addition to
site 0293, water quality data is available from 4 other ambient water quality monitoring
sites in Bayou Lafourche. These stations include:
Site 0023
Site 0293
Site 1112
Site 0294
Site 0111
Bayou Lafourche 1 mile below Donaldsonville
Bayou Lafourche at Thibodaux Canal Boulevard in Thibodaux
Bayou Lafourche at US 90 bridge in Raceland
Bayou Lafourche at Vacherie Street in Lockport
Bayou Lafourche at LA 308 bridge in Larose
A graphical representation of a selection of the ambient water quality monitoring data
available for subsegment 020401 is presented in Appendix A.
An interactive data access feature is
currently under development for public
access to all ambient surface water
quality data collected by LDEQ. Until that
feature is available the public may obtain
the data by contacting the LDEQ Public
Records Center.
Impairments
If samples taken through the ambient
sampling program fail to meet water
quality criteria, a water body is
considered impaired for the designated
use(s) to which those criteria apply.
Waters of the state are assessed
biennially in the Louisiana Water Quality
Inventory Integrated Report (Integrated
Report). The Integrated Report includes
the 303(d) list of impaired water bodies.
Bayou Lafourche subsegment 020401
has been included on the 1996, 1998,
2000, 2002, and 2004 303(d) lists of
impaired water bodies. Bayou Lafourche
is noted as being unable to support the
designated uses of primary contact
recreation and fish & wildlife propagation.
