In April, students in Integrated Math participated in the
National Financial Capability Challenge sponsored by the
U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Department
of Education. This online challenge consisted of 40 multiplechoice
questions assessing the students' financial knowledge.
Four of these students scored in the top 20 percent of students
nationwide and one has scored in the top 10 percent. They
were recognized for their achievement by the Secretaries of the
Treasury and of Education!

Teacher of the Year:
Mrs. Michelle Natale
Mrs. Michelle Natale has a
passion for history, and she
transfers her enthusiasm
to her students every day.
Over the past five years,
Mrs. Natale has taught
Western Civilization,
American History, American Government, and
Advanced Placement U.S. History. Each school year,
she also sponsors the National History Club. For Sailors
lucky enough to have Mrs. Natale once, twice, or thrice,
she has changed our lives in ways we never expected and
caused many of us to love American history as much as
she does. She makes her classes constantly exciting and
encourages all of us to participate.
For many of us, Mrs. Natale is the teacher that we visit
frequently even when we are no longer in her class, the
person we go to for advice and to share stories, and the
teacher whom we respect but also see as a friend. Whether
she is explaining to us the difference between Shakers and
Quakers, giving us the real deal on Andrew Jackson, or
obsessing over Titanic and Pearl Harbor with us, Mrs.
Natale will always be one of our favorite teachers and is
absolutely deserving of the honor of Teacher of the Year.

Mount de Sales Academy is also happy to congratulate
Mrs. Natale, who was honored last May as the recipient
of a Horace Mann-Abraham Lincoln Fellowship to study
our 16th president. We are so proud of Mrs. Natale, who
was one of only 50 educators nationwide to receive this
distinguished fellowship opportunity!
