Message
India is the fourth largest oil consumer in the world and imports over 70% of its oil needs
from the international market. Rising price of crude oil not only affects India's economic
growth but also poses great challenge for state owned oil companies to manage supplies
as well the finances. This has compelled policy makers to think innovatively about the
sector. Oil companies are under pressure to bring efficiency in oil exploration,
production and distribution. And, it can only be possible, when a new generation of
engineers and managers having the competency to think out-of-box to bring about a
revolution in the oil industry.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) was established by Ministry of
Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India in 2008 with this intent in mind. The
aim of the institute is to develop skilled professionals for oil and gas industry and
emerge as a pioneer Research and Development institution in this sector. Collaboration
with industry and willingness of industry experts to share their valuable experiences
with aspiring “Petrocrats” has given students an opportunity to simultaneously learn
theoretical and practical concepts of oil and gas industry. Participation of various public
and private oil and gas companies in this year's summer placement and last two years
final placement has proved that really this kind of institution was required to nurture
young “Petrocrats”.
Since its inception, RGIPT has accepted the dynamic nature of oil and gas industry and
continuously updated the curricula of B. Tech., M. Tech. and MBA with the help of
industry experts. Continuous updation of courses motivate me to request all oil, gas and
chemical industries to please participate in Final Campus Placement- 2012 of RGIPT at
Rae Bareli and find well-trained manager for their organization.
I am very hopeful that the passing out batch of MBA and M. Tech. and pioneer batch of
B. Tech. will prove their capability as innovative managers and engineers after
induction in the industry just like their seniors.
Wishing the students of RGIPT a bright future.
MBA PLACEMENT 2012
FROM PRESIDENT'S DESK, RGIPT
Message
“The task of a university is the creation of the future....” said Alfred North Whitehead. The essence of an
educational institution is aptly captured in the above saying. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum
Technology (RGIPT) derives its core values from this spirit and envisions becoming a world class
educational entity to serve as a fountainhead for nurturing 'Petrocrats'.
The ever growing energy demand worldwide has triggered enormous growth in the E&P sector. Similarly,
the downstream sector has become more competitive with the entry of private sector in both refining of
crude and marketing of petroleum products. Gas is the fuel of the future and the country has responded well
to the surging gas demands. The natural gas sector is expanding rapidly with a nationwide distribution
network being planned. Globalization has changed the scenario of Indian petroleum world and many
Indian oil and gas majors have intensified their overseas activities. This in turn has fuelled the demand of
professionals armoured with knowledge of latest technologies. This changing dynamics of the industry and
the need to have a balanced energy mix necessitated the development of a specialized institution which can
serve as a training ground for skilled professionals who will play a pivotal role in supplying the energy
demand of the country.
RGIPT with its long list of reputed patrons is poised to provide professionals with right set of skills to
industries. While brainstorming the type of model to be adopted, it emerged to develop the institute as a
“Corporate University” to bridge academia-industry gap and also to achieve active participation of
industry in its governance and development. The pioneer undergraduate batch of RGIPT is inculcated with
technical skills and values, which believes in pursuing the tradition of excellence. RGIPT is ready with its
pioneer batch of undergraduate and 3rd batch of M. Tech. and MBA, which is well equipped to understand
the dynamics of industry. I am confident that the students would utilize this opportunity for moulding their
creativity and lay the foundation of a world-class lineage.
I take this opportunity to invite national and international companies for undergraduate and post graduate
placements. I am sure your organization will serve as a dynamic learning ground for our students preparing
them for industry challenges.
FROM DIRECTOR'S DESK, RGIPT
Message
Iam pleased to introduce to you the postgraduate batch of MBA-2012 from RGIPT.
Our institute, conferred with the status of “Institute of National Importance” through
an Act of the Parliament, has set very high standards for itself. At RGIPT, we strive for
excellence in every activity we undertake. We have left no stone unturned in
conforming with global standards, right through the process of transforming the
aspiring young men and women into leaders who would catapult the industry to newer
heights.
The institute has the unique distinction of being nurtured by the Oil and Gas fraternity
of India. This brings at our disposal a wide industry network to tap into. The primary
objective of the faculty at RGIPT is to spawn a cadre of professionals who will acquire
the necessary skills to stand-up to the challenges in the various segments of the energy
sector. To this end, members of the faculty are drawn from a pool of industry veterans
and distinguished academicians.
At RGIPT, we believe in providing an environment to the students where they can
experiment with their ideas and can learn from their own experience, thereby fostering
creativity as well as rationality. Both the postgraduate programmes have been
designed with vital inputs from the industry and are being continuously updated to
meet the changing needs of the industry.
It's been three years since RGIPT's inception and the past year saw the second MBA
batch of 'Petrocrats' stepping out of its hallowed portals. Reports by employers confirm
that our alumni are excelling in the corporate world and have carved out a niche for
themselves. The class of 2012 is now ready to embark on their journey into the
professional world. The current batch is a reservoir of energetic and motivated students
who I believe would make substantial contribution to the Oil and Gas Industry.
I am delighted to invite you to our campus for the final placements of the 2012 MBA
batch at RGIPT. Regards
I N T R O D U C T I O N
orn out of the desire to keep the table tops clean,
Bthreatened to the verge of extinction by Edison's
invention and rescued by Ford's, no other industry has
found its fate entwined to technology and human needs,
the way the oil industry has. Years down the line, the oil
industry towers above the rest and continues to
contribute and gain from the symbiotic relationship
with technology.
The world today has come to be a place with
transformed human needs and technology. In our quest
for knowledge and perfection, we find ourselves
running into short supplies of conventional sources that
had been energising our dreams. With a little over a
century of fuelling our dreams behind it, the oil
industry's tryst with technology has found new
dimensions.
An industry that went global ages before globalization
became “the business phenomenon”, has defined &
redefined the ways of doing business in market place
where almost every country on the globe is a buyer.
Today, it stands on another threshold of change,
facilitated by the technological advancements to
welcome into the realms of energy, alternate sources of
satisfying our insatiable thirst for energy. With new
dimensions being added to energy, it is once again time
to redefine the ways in which the business affecting
people across the globe is run.
In the changed settings, the need of the hour is to train
professionals with the ability to synthesize from past the
knowledge of running a business global in reach and the
vision to shape a future where the spectrum of energy
with wider dimensions would have a greater role to play
because, to quote Paul Valery, - “The future is not what it
used to be”.
At RGIPT we are doing just that.
MBA PLACEMENT 2012 13
TESTIMONIALS FROM VISITING FACULTY
Shri Tapas Majumdar, Former Executive Director
(Legal), BPCL
“During the short time I spent with the student of
MBA batch of 2012 at RGIPT, I found them to be
bright, sincere & hardworking. Association with
these young men & women was a good experience
to me and it was very gratifying & enjoyable to
interact with this motivated batch of young ladies
and gentlemen. They were very vibrant and their
questions were thought provoking, intelligent and
challenging. Their active participation in class
made my task easier and whatever we did in the
class was a co-creation or looking to the same
subject in new way. I hope that they will be very
responsible citizens of this great country and
contribute in their own way to development in any
field they work without looking for monetary gain
only. I wish them all success in their lives and
careers”.
Prof. Manoj Kumar, IIM Lucknow
“I am really impressed with the students here. Most
of them are diligent, sincere and are much keen to
learn the things. I am sure such students will be
capable of shouldering any responsibility assigned
to them and will prove to be the best managers”.
Shri Vijay Duggal, DGM (Commercial), BPCL
“It gives me immense pleasure to be associated
with the MBA students' batch of 2012, faculty and
the management team of RGIPT- An institute of
national importance. I am particularly impressed
by the batch for its inquisitiveness and always
remaining energized. It is my sincere wish that you
all succeed in your career aspirations and bring
laurels to RGIPT.
While knowledge is important, professional ethics
and having a good value system are equally
important in a career or venture. And do
remember… We can and we shall build a
sustainable energy model for the nation”.
Prof. T. S. Srinivasan, Former Professor at IMI
