THE LOOK OF HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR TEACHERS 2012
Of Students...
I expect that my students will come to class prepared for learning and know that meaningful consequences
will be given if they don’t.
I will teach my students that in class, learning is their focus and that there is no time off task
I will instill in my students the belief that they can achieve high levels of performance. This will be
done in a “personal best” environment where all students aim to learn and to demonstrate growth
If my students are not demonstrating a general trend of Improvement from task to task I will trigger
action by providing extra support or seeking it out, contacting parents, changing my teaching approach,
seeking advice from colleagues or whatever else is necessary to enable my students to improve
I expect my students to succeed and to participate strongly in establishing learning goals or devising
a learning plan (ILP) to ensure that they do. The goals/plan will be devised to stretch them, challenge
them but ultimately ensure their success
My students will understand the notion of success in a “personal best” environment and will be involved
in regularly reviewing their progress to ensure that their goal setting is thoughtful and targeted
My students will undertake all required tasks including homework and it will be evident from my
knowledge of them that their efforts are worthy of their ability. They will respect and understand
the need for consequences if this is not the case.
This document will be rolled out as an
aspirational document. It is not one
where necessarily we would expect
everybody – staff and students – to be
immediately ready to deliver on every
element. However we will work with
staff through their professional learning
program during this year to increase
their capabilities to do so – in
the same way that in all fields of work
continuous on the job training is essential
to high level performance.
And of course we will work hard in
classrooms, at level and school assemblies
and through our publications
and website to challenge and teach
students to understand their capacities
and capabilities as learners and
the benefits associated with adopting
good learning habits such as those
described in our “High Expectations”
of them.
The Senior Girls’ Cricket Team played
Wantirna Secondary College for the
Knox District title on the 21 st of February
at Wantirna. Rowville batted
first and were led by a confident and
powerful display of hitting by Tayla
Gregory. She finished with 80 runs
and was ably supported by Freya,
Jess, Sally and Amber. Rowville then
bowled and defended 148 runs easily.
Tayla Gregory opened the bowling
and took a hat trick to put Wantirna
on the back foot from the start and
complete an amazing day of all round
cricket skills. A comfortable win by
the girls sees them through to the
next round and looking forward to
another day of cricket.
