The <strong>Communicator</strong> — Fall 2013 Issue started with as much professionalism, dedication, and sacrifice as they have. Of course, the restoring of the royal designation means different things to different people. In the next few weeks, as we take the time to define what it means to us and decide on how we intend to display it, we must collectively keep in mind that there are two facts that are paramount: first, the RCCS remains a proud component of the Communications and Electronics Branch (C&E Branch) and second, that the Corps continues to be aligned with other Corps within the Canadian Army. To that end, it is essential that no initiative be taken, no events planned, and no changes made before we have had a chance to seek and obtain endorsement of the governance framework related to our Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. A communiqué outlining the concept of implementation resulting from this name change is in the process of being drafted for consideration by senior leaders of the C&E Branch before being presented to the Commander of the Canadian Army for approval. You will be kept informed of the way forward on a regular basis. This announcement was described as the next step in the phased approach that began in August 2011, when the historical name of the Canadian Army was restored. This announcement is a proud moment for Signallers of all ranks regardless of where they are employed or whom they support as it acknowledges the rich tradition of the Corps and bestows upon the current members of the Corps the same qualities and reputation that our forebears were richly granted. We should definitely be proud of that fact and commit ourselves to carry on what they have Reinstatement of Canadian Army ranks and insignia The Minister of National Defence, Peter McKay, announced on 8 July 2013 their intention to restore the traditional rank names for all Canadian Army non-commissioned members, as well as the reintroduction of Canadian Army officers' rank insignia. Instead of the air force style rank insignia, Canadian Army officers will once again use the traditional "pips and crowns", a system which is more than one hundred years old. This in no way diminishes Canada's identity, and I would suggest we are returning to the insignia that was so much a part of what the Canadian Army accomplished in Canada’s name". Velox Versutus Vigilans Divisional Nomenclature and Patches Another change will be the name change of Land Force Areas and Canadian Army Personnel will wear appropriate division patches. Formations will be renamed as follows; Land Force Quebec Area will be referred to as “2nd Canadian Division” Land Force Western Area will be referred to as “3rd Canadian Division” Land Force Central Area will be referred to as “4th Canadian Division” Land Force Atlantic Area will be referred to as “5th Canadian Division” and Land Force Doctrine and Training System will be referred to as “Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre” There will be no change to 1st Canadian Division Headquarters. Distinctive rank names Some branches and regiments use distinctive rank names in place of master corporal, corporal and private.
