The Communicator — Fall 2013 Issue
Message from HLCol Alex Moseanu
We are 110 years old. Congratulations Royal Canadian Corps of
Signals, yes that is our official name again. Our Colonel in Chief
HRH Princess Anne made this official in the 25 Oct 2013 at CFB
Kingston. On this occasion HRH presented C & E a new Royal
Banner. The Toronto Signals band was present at the parade and
performed magnificently.
To wrap this year up, I hope to continue to serve for the soldiers
of this Regiment and I am looking forward to Christmas (but not
the snow).
Do not forget to ask your friends to donate generously to the
S.H.E fund so we can help our soldiers. Merry Christmas and a
Happy New year to you all.
Spiritus Manet
The previous evening I had the privilege
of being part of a Mess Dinner
for HRH, compliments of the CO.
The next day was the Parade and
the 32 Signal Regiment afternoon
reception. That was including an
ice carving of our Signals Cap
Badge and a delicious array of food
was served.
On top of this honour there will be
changes to our uniforms, gone are
the Naval stripes for the Officers,
rank will be again following our traditional
"Pips and Crowns". There is
also a rumour that we will be
dressed in real Army khaki . It is
true when they say "what was old is
new again". It is nice that someone
higher has decided that we should
revert to our traditional Army garb.
Earlier this year I had the occasion
to participate in several events representing
out unit in the community
such as in May. Victory in Europe
Day and at the Warriors Day parade
I was with the Hon Parade Marshal
Col Dave Devall. When I was on
duty with the Lt Governor of Ontario,
I had the privilege of meeting with the former President of the
United States, Bill Clinton. I was also invited to the US Consulate
in Toronto to celebrate 4th of July were I proudly represented the
Regiment.
Our participation with Post 3 of the 29 Infantry Division Association
(US Army) is doing well and growing in membership, I also had the
chance to visit the VA Hospital in Buffalo. There were about
40,000 Canadians in Viet Nam. On the 21 Nov I will be flying to
Washington, DC to participate in a Viet Nam veterans fund raiser.
General Colin Powell (US Army) and famous TV star Tom Selleck
(Magnum PI) will be present.
Of course there was FTX at Petawawa, I travelled there with the
Padre Audrey Brown to visit the troops and make sure my friend
Capt Roger Caron of Afghanistan fame. I understand the Regiment
did very well.
Last week I was invited by our Hong Kong servicemen's assoc. to
a Mess Dinner in order to celebrate the famous WW2 Chindits and
Burma Star veterans. Our own Major Alfred Lai gave a wonderful
speech that included a short history of the Chindits.
From the RSM
It has been a very busy summer for the
Regiment. We hosted the ACCIS DP1
course for the central area. We then supplied
the OPFOR CP for Stalwart Guardian,
and now have flung into IBTS. To say we
need max attendance for this training year
would be an understatement.
In addition we have just completed our
contribution to Celebration 2013 in Kingston.
The Regimental family was involved in many events including
the band performance in the parade. We received many
praises for our afternoon reception, and I thank all that assisted.
It has been a long time in the planning, but it was all worthwhile.
As my tour as RSM begins its final phase, I look to continue to
build the new Regimental identity and assist in moving Signals
training, equipment and employment forward in both 32 Brigade
and 4 Division.
