Youth Advisory
Council Update
The West Tamar Youth Advisory Council
has been busy of late with many different
projects and ideas underway. One of our
latest projects include the repairing and repainting
of the Riverside underpass. Months
ago YAC decided that the underpass wasn't
a very friendly place so we decided to clean
it up and paint over the graffiti to make it
more inviting. We'll be getting local schools
and artists involved to repaint it throughout
November/December.
One of YAC's favourite jobs to do is to think up
some fun and exciting things to do over the
school holidays for the kids of the community.
In the past we have been involved in things
such as laser skirmish, gross out eating
challenge, Tasmania Zoo, The Aquatic Centre,
Master Chef and trips to the cinemas. The
summer school holidays are set to be an
exciting one with many things in store for the
kids of the West Tamar.
Every year at Exeter High School there is a
community vs. students twenty-20 cricket
match. This year there will be some of our
favourite community members and teacher's
of Exeter High School competing with
students for the prestigious title (and bragging
rights) of The Community Cricket Clash. It will
be an exciting game with a BBQ as well which
will raise money for the REACH foundation.
This year and the last we have had a few
YAC members visit a leadership conference
called Ylead. At Ylead we learn how about
leadership, leadership skills, fundraising and
meet many amazing new people. This year we
had 3 YAC members attend and they all speak
very highly of it.
Recently YAC's have been talking about what
we should do for the 2011 National Youth
Week event. Planning is underway and we
hope to host an awesome event next year for
the young people in our community.
Thank you
As science learning leader at Exeter High,
Jane has made sure other science staff
at the school have excellent professional
learning with the emphasis on engaging all
students in curiosity-driven learning. As
