Both FKG 977 and KGK 793 have been repainted into “Irish” green & cream and tidied up a bit; in the case of KGK 793 this has included the fitment of ‘double glazing’ style windows - afraid it spoils it somewhat but if it ensures its survival for a few more years, then it must be a good thing. FKG 977 is now positioned outside an additional McGuire’s restaurant at Destin, FL (by 3/07). Miami Double-Deck Tours, Miami. The yard has been cleared and the gates are now padlocked; all the buses are gone - in addition to the Bristol VRs, which I believe never did enter service, they also operated elderly American coaches. All that remains now on an adjacent plot, is the front roof dome which had been badly damaged on the o/s corner, and the o/s engine fairing from BNU 681G, and some bits of panelling from an American coach which, with plastic sheeting, etc., have been brought together to provide a ‘home’ for a homeless person. The report of 52 JAL in Miami is based on information gleaned from subsequent owners in Pennsylvania. I should like to hear from anyone who can substantiate its operation in Miami in the 1980’s. Despite JWT 756V having all the right ‘attachments’ for chassis number SL3/2007, I am still not convinced that this is the correct identity of their VR, principally based on the fact that the body has features only introduced in later production and which the true JWT 756V never had (from photographic evidence). All tell-tale marks have been obliterated or removed, the seats would appear to have come from ex-Northern ECW-bodied Atlanteans (MBR 4xxT batch), and just one thing suggests it could be GGM 80 W, but nothing corroborates this so in my mind it must remain a mystery whilst investigation continues!! Michael Overcash dba Great Knight Tours, Atlanta, GA, sold his Ld Atlantean RDS 571W, which carries HGD 872L plates, to a property company in New York who wanted it for an advertising campaign to sell properties in the Miami area. Michael himself delivered it to Miami in February 2004, but once the promotion was finished the bus was sold to Las Vegas, Nevada. -?-, St. Petersburg. The guy who had HVH 233 at this stage (c2002-4), was going to open a restaurant in downtown St Petersburg, and was going to use HVH 233 in connection with the venture (guest shuttle? Or just mobile billboard?, I’m not sure). The restaurant never got completed and HVH 233 was returned to Bay Area Auction Services, Pinellas Park, St Petersburg, from whence it had come. During this time however it did get repainted from yellow to red. Query: A “Mike’s Deli” in St. Petersburg advertised a Bristol FLF on e-Bay in June 2006 - this may have been AVX 956B one time with Cool MO’s Coffee, Tampa, though I have no confirmation that this is so. Josh Goldberg still has both VRs; though one was advertised on e-Bay at one stage it would appear it did not attract a buyer and Josh intends keeping it for the time being. The Caterie, Baton Rouge. GKA 524M is parked in the large public car park to the front of this club/restaurant; it appears to have been towed to this position. It has images of tigers on the sides and is lettered “Tigers”; the Tigers appear to have been the 2003 National Champions and the bus was painted in 2004 to reflect this. REGISTRATION NOTES Abu Dhabi (UAE) has introduced a fifth series of plates. These have 5 and Arabic text in white on a red band above a serial in black on reflective white. No Arabic letters are used at all. The single line version has the 5 in white on a red band at the left followed by the country name in Arabic and the serial, again in black on reflective white. At an auction in May a registration from this series with the single digit 5 was sold for £3.4 million! Denmark has announced that europlates will be introduced from 2008. It is also anticipated that the present series will be exhausted in 2009 and that they will then start again from AA, presumably omitting any registrations still in use. Lesotho has decided that once Maseru is exhausted the present series at AZ 9999 before much longer, then they will continue from A 10001 upwards. Leribe reached C9999 in 2000 and now issues marks from CA 001 upwards. All other districts are still using the original single letter and four numerals series which has been used since 1979. The plates are blue on white. Michigan is the last US state to adopt reflective plates for general issue. The 1982 series of white on blue plates are, since January 2007, being replaced with blue on reflective white plates using three letters and four numerals from BAA 0000 upwards for passenger cars and CA 00000 upwards for commercials. MICHIGAN is in white on a blue band at the top and www.Michigan.gov at the bottom. An optional graphic plate in 1AA A23 format is also available, starting from 0HA A00 for passengers and G00 00A for commercials. Norway has introduced a new style of plate which has a blue band to the left or upper left. This has the national flag above the letter N. There has also been a change in the style of the characters. These plates are being used for most categories of vehicles. In the Caribbean, Sint Eustatius has introduced very colourful graphic plates with a blue base and two fishes against a reef to the left. ST. EUSTATIUS is at the top and THE HISTORIC GEM at the bottom, both in white. The registration, in white, consists of an alphabetic code and a serial from 1 upwards with the island crest as a separator. Private cars use the prefix E and buses the letter B. In South Africa, Northwest Province now has graphic personalised plates with the letters NW as a suffix. Northern Province has been renamed Limpopo and, reflecting the change, the suffix L has replaced N. Both normal and personalised plates have been seen with the L suffix. Zimbabwe has started to issue a new series of plates, presumbably only for new vehicles or on change of ownership. In black on reflective yellow they have three letters and four numerals, from AAA 0001 upwards, with the national crest in the space between them. Similar plates in red on white are for commercial vehicles. What appears to be a personalised plate with eight letters has been observed together with diplomatic plates still in the same format, but on the new style of plates. KER 060707
