Cross Country
We are hosting the Small Schools
Cross Country this Friday 5th April.
As the track runs around the inside
of the school perimeter, no cars can
enter or leave the school grounds
during the races. You are welcome
to park on the school grounds if you
arrive before 9.30am. At this time,
there will be a block at the front
entrance. No one will be able to
leave until the conclusion of ALL
races- usually around 1.30pm.
No parking is permitted in the bus
bay area as this forms part of the
track.
If you arrive after 9.30 or need to
leave before the end of the races,
you will need to park in the
surrounding streets. Please don’t
block anyone’s drive ways. The road
between the school and Fredericks
Lane (near the rainforest entrance)
is a private road- please do not park
here at all.
There will be a shop for drinks,
cakes etc and a BBQ on the day.
We hope you can join us.

Some good ideas……
Allow your child to bring an old
towel or blanket to sit on as the
ground is still damp.
Send a plastic bag and an extra pair
of shoes and socks as children will
be running through some muddy
patches.
You might want to consider a
change of clothes in case your child
gets splattered with or falls in mud.
PLEASE LABEL ALL CLOTHING AND
HATS.

Interest Groups
Interest groups for term 1 finish
today. Children can nominate for
their term 2 group. Due to the wet
weather in Term 1, students who
picked gardening can join the
gardening group in term 2, or pick
another activity.
The choices are:
K-2 origami, K-2 art, 3-6 origami, 3-6
art, K-6 sculpture, K-6 gardening, K-
6 digital art.
WANTED!
Pizza Boxes & Shoe Boxes
4/5S and 5/6T will be building solar
ovens next Monday 8 th April and
need pizza boxes for this task. If you
have a somewhat clean pizza box
we can use, please drop it in to the
4/5S or 5/6T classroom.
Kinder is also working on an
interesting project and is in need of
shoe boxes. These items can be
dropped to the classes or the front
office. Thank you in advance for
your assistance.
ANZAC Day
We will be participating in the
Ballina ANZAC Day march again this
year even though it falls during the
second week of the school holidays.
If you are available please meet Ms
Talbot out the front of the Ballina
Court House on River Street (just up
from the pool) at 10:10am on
Thursday 25 th April wearing full
school uniform. Parents can collect
students from the roundabout at
the RSL on Grant Street at the
conclusion of the march at
approximately 10:50am.
Rainbow Day
On Friday the 12 th of April it is
Rainbow Day! It’s a rainbow themed
day where you can come in rainbow
clothes out of your school uniform
and have fun. The gold coin
donation (if you come rainbow
themed) goes to Stewart House.
Envelopes will come home for
donations next week. Please ensure
you still wear sun safe clothes and
sensible shoes. Shiann, SRC rep.

Cricket Team
On Wednesday the 27 th of March
our school organised a cricket team
to verse Alstonville Public School in
a PSSA knock out. Our batsmen
tried their best and we made 25
runs in total. Our highest run scorer
was Caleb with 8 runs. Our bowling
was a lot better with Austin getting
two wickets from the first two balls.
APS equalled our score with only 5
wickets down. Austin was our top
wicket taker with 4 wickets. Jarrod
was also a key player when bowling
and fielding giving us great hope for
next year. We would like to thank
Mrs Sawras for all her efforts in
training us.

Combined Schools Cross Country
Friday 5 th April
CANTEEN RED LIGHT DAY
Friday is set to be a big day!
Not only will Teven Tintenbar welcome friends and teachers from neighbouring schools
BUT the Canteen with big help from the P & C will welcome a new friend to our team…..
We are sure you are going to like the produce from our new friend. It’s cold, icy and SLUSHY! That’s right –
our very own Ice Slushy machine in YOUR canteen.
As Friday is a Red Light day we will be serving red and blue just for you! Just $2.50 each.
Help us name our new friend. When you purchase a drink on Friday you will receive one entry to name our
machine. The winning entry not only gets the honour of naming our friend but a FREE drink.
Bring your pennies!
Sausage sandwiches will be available on the day for those who didn’t get their pre-order lunches in.
WE NEED YOUR BAKED GOODIES
If you can spare some time in your kitchen, we would love home baked goodies to sell on the day. Any and
all donations are welcomed. Please leave at the canteen the morning of Cross Country.

Canteen Committee THANK YOU
The Canteen Committee would formally like to thank the P&C for their assistance in purchasing an Ice Drink Machine for
our Canteen. The machine can be used on regular canteen open days as we will be using an approved all natural “green
light” mixes. We believe this addition to our School will be very popular and a healthy treat for our children. Another
BIG thank you to Mrs McDonald for donating a slinky machine. Wow in one week 2 items from our wish list. Many

Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC)
All students are again being encouraged to participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) this year. The PRC begins
on 1st March and ends on 1st September. Reading undertaken since the end of the last Challenge and the beginning of
March can be counted. Kindergarten to Year 2 students need to read or experience (have the book read to them) 30
books in this time. Year 3 to Year 6 students are to read or experience 20 books. Capable Year 2 readers may undertake
the 3-6 Challenge, as long as their books are from the 3-6 book lists.
It is a condition of entry that all students entering and successfully completing the PRC will receive an official PRC
certificate and their names will appear on the PRC Honour Roll in The Sun Herald newspaper. Parents who do not wish
for their child to receive a certificate or have their names published should see their class teacher or Ms Talbot. These
children will receive acknowledgement at school.

Ms Talbot is still keeping track of PRC books borrowed from the Library with Mrs Undery’s help and those read in class,
so parents need not worry unless they wish to add books from home to the list. There will be class lists in the library
where students can note the PRC number of books read during lunchtimes. Older students are familiar with this process

Fundraising News
Easter Raffle success
Thanks to the hard work of our Fundraising Committee and many other parents who helped out, we are pleased to
announce that we raised a total of $1,071.50 from the school Easter Raffle.
This result is only possible through the generosity of our school community, and we thank everyone for their donation of
easter eggs and for supporting our raffle by purchasing tickets.
Congratulations to all our prize winners, and with 48 prizes awarded, we suspect that many of our school families might
have been feeling the effects of a chocolate high over the Easter period!
School Recipe Book
Exciting news! At last week’s P&C Committee meeting, our school recipe book fundraiser received the green light to
proceed. Special thanks are extended to all the people who responded to our questionnaire, which gave us the
ammunition we needed to progress this initiative.
How can you help?
We are now looking to our school community to provide us with recipes for our school recipe book. We need your best
and brightest, tried and tested recipes. You may have a penchant for sweet things; you may have a drawer full of
delicious dinner recipes; you may have some family recipes that have been handed down from generation to
generation….we would like to hear from all of you, and more. Diversity is the key to the success of this project and all
contributions are welcomed!
Format
Please note the following format for submission of recipes:
1. Please include your name and contact details with each of your recipes
2. Recipes may be submitted via email – michelle@thewordpr.com.au OR via the school office, marked attention

3. If your recipe comes from a recipe book, please indicate the name of the recipe book in your submission. This is
most important as there are copyright issues that we need to comply with
4. If you are unsure if the recipe originally came from a recipe book or not, please indicate this in your submission
and we will substitute words where possible (eg. change ‘mix’ to ‘blend’ etc) to get around copyright issues.
5. Feel free to add personal comments with each recipe eg. ‘a great way to hide veggies for the kids’ OR ‘this meal
suits even the fussiest eaters’ etc etc.
