Kindergarten
Congratulations to our new Kinders
and their families on a fabulous
start to 2013. All 31 of our Kinders
are in attendance and coping well
with the big changes in their life. If
you have any questions about
school routines please do not
hesitate to talk to us.
Swimming Carnival
I hope this cooler weather stays
with us for Friday’s swimming
carnival. Thank you to everyone
who has returned permission notes.
Reminder notes are included with
this newsletter for all students who
have not yet returned notes.
A reminder- if you are driving your
children to and from the pool, we
still require a permission and
medical note BEFORE the day. Your
child will need to see Mrs Latta at
the pool to obtain their wrist band.
Children without wrist bands are
not permitted to enter the pool.
Due to time constraints the
carnival will run on Friday
regardless of weather, except if
there are thunderstorms. If it is too
wet for your child to attend, you will
need to decide if they are still going
to attend. All teachers 2-6 will be
attending the carnival so there will
be no supervision for the children at
school, with the exception of the
Year 2 children who turn 7 this year.
They will be with Mrs Hambly for
the day.

District carnival
There is a short time between our
swimming carnival and the district
carnival. All children participating in
the district carnival will be given
their permission note on Monday
11 th February. Notes will need to be
returned by Wednesday 13 th as the
carnival is on Friday 15 th February.
Mrs Sawras will be the teacher
attending the district carnival. Miss
Bowler will be also attending as
chaperone for our children. Please
see Mrs Latta if you have any
questions.
Interest groups
Thank you to everyone who
returned their notes. Everyone who
returned their note on Tuesday was
able to get their first choice. A full
list of the groups will be placed in
Miss Talbot’s window. Groups start
next Wednesday 13 th February.
Toilet upgrade
The work on our toilet upgrade
started yesterday. All work should
be finished by the end of Term 1.
The noise mainly affects the two
senior classes. These children are
able to bring their ipod etc or ear
plugs to cut out the noise. If
children arrive in the morning and it
is too noisy, they will be asked to sit
either in the library or near Mrs
Lasserre’s room.
Edmodo – Public Forum
Mrs Lasserre and Mrs Toscan have
set up an EDMODO account for the
class. Parents will be able to log in
and ask simple questions. As this is
a public forum, questions and
comments should be limited to
things like homework, what do
children need to bring in, what day
is library day etc. It is anticipated
that each class will develop their
own edmodo or class blog.
More personal questions are best
handled face to face, especially if
you have a concern as all our
teachers are here to help. All
electronic communication that
travels to and from our school is
heavily monitored by DEC for
offensive, abusive and illegal
behaviour. The DEC suggests we
make parents aware that emails and
other communications that are
libellous, abusive or a personal
attack are referred to the DEC.
These sorts of communications will
not be answered by staff.
Bus passes
Bus passes for Ballina Buslines and
Blanchs are automatically posted to
students as they move through the
years, with the exception of
students moving from Year 2 to
Year 3. If your child is one of these
children please see the office for a
new form. If you are one of our
new Kinder families and you need
to set up your students bus travel,
please also ask for a form.
Parking in school grounds
By all means park on the front oval
to deliver and pick up your children.
We would ask that you reverse in
when possible. This makes it safer
when lots of cars are leaving at
once, as you can see the other
vehicles more clearly but more
importantly, you can more clearly
see small children running to their
car. When exiting the carpark onto
the roundabout, all traffic MUST
turn left to go around the
roundabout.
Student Leaders
Trixie has moved to Holy Famliy
School as part of her transition to
high school. Based on the voting
from last year, Bronwyn has moved
to the vice captain position. Charlee
is now Blue House Captain and
Maddy is now Blue House Vice
Captain. Congratulations to all the
girls.

Miss Slingsby’s Birthday
Miss Slingsby turns 30 this Friday 8 th
February. As a ‘not so much of a
surprise’ her family has organised a
family holiday to celebrate this
occasion. Miss Slingsby will be on
leave for a few days from, and
including, this Friday. Mr David
Gardner will be teaching the class
while she is on leave.

P&C News
Welcome back to school to
everyone, especially to the new
kindy children and their families
we hope you have had a
wonderful first few days and will
enjoy the experience for years to
come! P&C meetings are held
monthly so please feel free to
come along.
Each year we have an AGM where
nominations are called for and
positions within the P&C filled. As
a small community school we
need people to step up and help
out to enable our children to reap
the rewards. A few things we
managed to contribute in the past
have been buying white boards
for every class and new lunch
tables to name a few. Discussions
are had and funds are raised so
that the benefits help our school
and ultimately our children.

Once again welcome to Teven-
Tintenbar Public School, it is
a great school and together we
achieve a lot for such a small
school so jump on the bandwagon
for 2013!

Choral Festival
On Monday I received an email
about our choir audition for this
year’s Festival of Choral Music at
the Opera House. Unfortunately, we
were not successful this year.
However, they have invited Miss
Slingsby to attend the Teacher’s
workshop on 22 nd February. This will
give Miss Slingsby invaluable
support in running our school choir
this year. While we are not going to
the Opera House, there will be
other opportunities to showcase
the singing voices of our very
talented children.
Mathletics and Reading
Eggs/Eggspress
We will be using the Mathletics and
Reading Eggs/Eggspress program in
2013. All classes will have access to
these programs at school and the
children can also access them at
home. As 3P learning has increased
their costs, we have had to increase
our cost to you. The cost will be $30
per child. Invoices will be sent home
next week. The World Maths Day is
on Wednesday 6 th March. An
invitation will be given to Year 4, 5
and 6 students, who have a love of
maths, to participate in this event
this year. There is no cost to
parents. We would start the day at
7.30am and the children will ‘play’
live Mathletics and other activities
all day.
Anaphylaxis
We have several children with
anaphylaxis in our school. Most
have an allergy to nuts so we would
appreciate if peanut butter, nutella
and other nut products are not
included in your child’s lunch. We
understand that this can be
restrictive and takes away some
much loved products, but this is a
measure we undertake to protect
the lives of some of our students
with SEVERE allergies.
All teachers at TTPS have current
Anaphylaxis training. Under strict
new guidelines, casual teachers
cannot be employed until they have
undertaken anaphylaxis training.
Bookclub News
If you wish to have a copy of the
order forms they are available at
the office. The return date for all
orders is 19 th February.
School Banking Program
This year you are invited to join us
on a fantastic journey around
Savings Adventure Island. For
every 10 deposits you make, you
can redeem your 10 silver tokens
for an exciting new treasure. This
year the treasures include – a
wallet, a handball, a knuckles
game, a torch, a calculator,
headphones & 5 different
Dollarmite money boxes. This
week all students will receive an
information pack on how to be
great Savings Hunters. Remember
to bring in your savings deposits
on Monday or Tuesday each week
& they will be returned to you by
the end of the week. Throughout
each year the Commonwealth
Bank also run some fun
competitions. In December last
year one lucky banker from
another school won a mini ipad.

Sustain Northern Rivers (SNR) is
conducting a transport survey for
the Northern Rivers. They want to

Go4Fun ® has an emphasis on practical, fun
learning. This FREE program by NSW Health
is designed to deliver sustained
improvements in families’ diet, fitness levels
and overall health. The program has been
specifically designed for children aged 7-13
years and their parents or carers.
Go4Fun ® runs for 10 weeks alongside the
school term and is delivered twice a week
for two hours - the first hour consisting of
interactive discussions and activities about
nutrition and behavior change. The second
hour focuses on interactive fun games and
exercise for children.
Go4Fun ® encourages a family approach and
as such a parent or a carer must attend all
sessions with the child.
