Measles<br />

NSW Health is again warning the<br />

public to be alert to the symptoms<br />

of measles after another three<br />

cases were c<strong>on</strong>firmed to have been<br />

in the community while infectious<br />

with measles in the last couple of<br />

weeks.<br />

Measles is highly infectious and is<br />

spread through coughing and<br />

sneezing. Symptoms can include<br />

fever, tiredness, runny nose, cough<br />

and sore red eyes which usually last<br />

for several days before a red,<br />

blotchy rash appears. Complicati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

can range from an ear infecti<strong>on</strong> to<br />

pneum<strong>on</strong>ia or swelling of the brain.<br />

A teenager who likely acquired their<br />

infecti<strong>on</strong> in Bali, and has since<br />

visited Dreamworld and presented<br />

to the Byr<strong>on</strong> Bay Hospital while<br />

infectious. There have been several<br />

more cases diagnosed in the Byr<strong>on</strong><br />

Bay area.<br />

The time from exposure to the<br />

<strong>on</strong>set of symptoms is typically<br />

around 10 days but can be as l<strong>on</strong>g<br />

as 18 days, so there may be other<br />

cases in the community now or<br />

people who will be developing<br />

symptoms over the next few weeks.<br />

NSW Health advises parents of<br />

infants or other people who aren’t<br />

fully vaccinated against measles to<br />

be <strong>on</strong> the lookout for symptoms of<br />

measles.<br />

We urge parents to be <strong>on</strong> the alert<br />

for symptoms and seek medical<br />

attenti<strong>on</strong> if c<strong>on</strong>cerned. At the very<br />

least, if you feel your child has the<br />

above symptoms and it may be<br />

Outstanding School Fees<br />

We still have Mathletics and<br />

Reading Eggs Licence fees unpaid.<br />

Reminders were sent out at the<br />

beginning of the term. The fee is<br />

$30 per student for the entire year<br />

of access to these programs, both<br />

here at school and at home. School<br />

paid these fees in February this year<br />

so we would appreciate if this<br />

outstanding amount is paid by THIS<br />

FRIDAY 25 th OCTOBER as the<br />

following week school closes its<br />

finances in preparati<strong>on</strong> for our new<br />

finance system.<br />

Lucy Yopp<br />

Please welcome Mrs Lucy Yopp who<br />

we are lucky enough to have<br />

teaching at our school for the<br />

remainder of the term. Lucy will<br />

work with each of the classes and is<br />

replacing Mrs Lyn Sales who is <strong>on</strong><br />

l<strong>on</strong>g service leave.<br />

School Swimming Fees Starts next week M<strong>on</strong>day 28 th October<br />

Notes have been sent home today to the students attending the 10 day Intensive<br />

Learn to Swim and the 10 day stroke correcti<strong>on</strong>. Both of these start this M<strong>on</strong>day.<br />

Please ensure that your students have all the gear necessary for these less<strong>on</strong>s, more<br />

informati<strong>on</strong> is listed <strong>on</strong> the attached notes.<br />

If you have paid the discounted amount because your family has purchased a pool<br />

pass please ensure that your child has their Pool passes with them or they will be<br />

charged for pool entry. Pool pass students will enter the pool in a separate group<br />

so they will definitely need to have that with them.<br />

Fundraising News – Shopping trip to Harbour Town EXPRESSION OF INTEREST<br />

Xmas is <strong>on</strong>ly 10 weeks away!! We are planning a shopping trip to the Harbour Town <strong>on</strong> the Gold Coast <strong>on</strong> Sunday 1 st<br />

December. The cost would be around $20 which include transport and the chance to win $100 shopping voucher.<br />

It would be a full day event leaving at 9 and returning by 6 from the school with a possible pickup in Alst<strong>on</strong>ville.<br />

Year 3-4 camp<br />

Children in years 3 and 4 had a w<strong>on</strong>derful time during their Currumbin excursi<strong>on</strong> last<br />

week. Organisers of the camp commented <strong>on</strong> the outstanding behaviour of our<br />

students. Both Mrs Sawras and Mrs McD<strong>on</strong>ald were very proud and enjoyed<br />

themselves every bit as much as the children. Special thank you to Brendan Tolman<br />

and Tim Martorana for coming al<strong>on</strong>g.<br />

I liked the sight navigati<strong>on</strong> activity the best. We were given maps and had to find<br />

certain things before other teams did, and then check them off <strong>on</strong> our checklist.<br />

The creek activity was great – we had to catch bugs and they are called<br />

‘macroinvertebrates’. My foot slipped in the water and I got a wet shoe! Paloma<br />

The food was awesome because I got to eat food that I d<strong>on</strong>’t normally eat at home. I<br />

loved the animals and being in nature. Thomas.<br />

All of the activities were fun because we were with our friends. Dakota<br />

I loved the hamburgers and the rock climbing even though it was up high. Ethan kept<br />

humming when I was trying to get to sleep so it took me a while! Brayden<br />

Camp was unreal but I didn’t like using the portaloos at night. Jacks<strong>on</strong><br />

The people who organised the activities were farmers and they were really nice. My<br />

favourite animal was Biscuit the horse. The turkey was funny because he kept <strong>on</strong><br />

fluffing up his feathers. Rock climbing was scary but it was good how we worked<br />

Pia saved me from falling when we did Respect rock climbing - Resp<strong>on</strong>sibility because she - Results was paying<br />

With some great prizes <strong>on</strong> offer, I’m sure friends and family<br />

are very keen to buy some tickets and be a part of our great<br />

raffle. If you need more tickets to sell please grab another<br />

book or two from the office. Once sold, please return tickets<br />

and m<strong>on</strong>ey to the office.<br />

It is nearly time to d<strong>on</strong> the apr<strong>on</strong>s and start baking!! There are boxes in the office for those<br />

who are baking slices, muffins or biscuits, and some plates for cakes. If you d<strong>on</strong>’t get a<br />

box d<strong>on</strong>’t fret, bring your goodies in and the lovely ladies will return your c<strong>on</strong>tainers! The<br />

stall co-ordinators would love them <strong>on</strong> Friday afterno<strong>on</strong> (1 st November) if possible, if not<br />

take them to the stall <strong>on</strong> the morning of the fair.<br />

Rides, Rides, Rides<br />

All day passes are <strong>on</strong> sale for $17. Please complete the form and return to the office with correct<br />

m<strong>on</strong>ey. The tickets will come home <strong>on</strong> Friday 1 st November – you will need to bring these with you <strong>on</strong> Fair<br />

day. Take them to the ticket booth to get your stamp and then have fun!!<br />

Simply fill in the slip below and return to the office with your payment by Friday, November 1.<br />

We will issue you with a receipt and record your name <strong>on</strong> the Master List. On the day of the<br />

Fair, you just have to hand in your receipt to the Ticket Booth and receive your ride pass.<br />

Remember, the earlier you get your pass, the earlier the fun begins! Day Passes will be available<br />

at the Ticket Booth from 9.30am.<br />
