Measles
NSW Health is again warning the
public to be alert to the symptoms
of measles after another three
cases were confirmed to have been
in the community while infectious
with measles in the last couple of
weeks.
Measles is highly infectious and is
spread through coughing and
sneezing. Symptoms can include
fever, tiredness, runny nose, cough
and sore red eyes which usually last
for several days before a red,
blotchy rash appears. Complications
can range from an ear infection to
pneumonia or swelling of the brain.
A teenager who likely acquired their
infection in Bali, and has since
visited Dreamworld and presented
to the Byron Bay Hospital while
infectious. There have been several
more cases diagnosed in the Byron
Bay area.
The time from exposure to the
onset of symptoms is typically
around 10 days but can be as long
as 18 days, so there may be other
cases in the community now or
people who will be developing
symptoms over the next few weeks.
NSW Health advises parents of
infants or other people who aren’t
fully vaccinated against measles to
be on the lookout for symptoms of
measles.
We urge parents to be on the alert
for symptoms and seek medical
attention if concerned. At the very
least, if you feel your child has the
above symptoms and it may be

your child at home until you are
sure it is not measles. We have
many families with young babies,
who have not yet had their full
course of immunisations and are
therefore at a higher risk of
infection.
If you haven’t already been
immunised, NSW Health offers free
MMR (Measles Mumps and Rubella)
vaccine through GPs for people
born after 1965.

Outstanding School Fees
We still have Mathletics and
Reading Eggs Licence fees unpaid.
Reminders were sent out at the
beginning of the term. The fee is
$30 per student for the entire year
of access to these programs, both
here at school and at home. School
paid these fees in February this year
so we would appreciate if this
outstanding amount is paid by THIS
FRIDAY 25 th OCTOBER as the
following week school closes its
finances in preparation for our new
finance system.

Please welcome Mrs Lucy Yopp who
we are lucky enough to have
teaching at our school for the
remainder of the term. Lucy will
work with each of the classes and is
replacing Mrs Lyn Sales who is on
long service leave.
School Swimming Fees Starts next week Monday 28 th October
Notes have been sent home today to the students attending the 10 day Intensive
Learn to Swim and the 10 day stroke correction. Both of these start this Monday.
Please ensure that your students have all the gear necessary for these lessons, more
information is listed on the attached notes.
If you have paid the discounted amount because your family has purchased a pool
pass please ensure that your child has their Pool passes with them or they will be
charged for pool entry. Pool pass students will enter the pool in a separate group
so they will definitely need to have that with them.

Fundraising News – Shopping trip to Harbour Town EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Xmas is only 10 weeks away!! We are planning a shopping trip to the Harbour Town on the Gold Coast on Sunday 1 st
December. The cost would be around $20 which include transport and the chance to win $100 shopping voucher.
It would be a full day event leaving at 9 and returning by 6 from the school with a possible pickup in Alstonville.

Year 3-4 camp
Children in years 3 and 4 had a wonderful time during their Currumbin excursion last
week. Organisers of the camp commented on the outstanding behaviour of our
students. Both Mrs Sawras and Mrs McDonald were very proud and enjoyed
themselves every bit as much as the children. Special thank you to Brendan Tolman
and Tim Martorana for coming along.
Some memorable moments….
I liked the sight navigation activity the best. We were given maps and had to find
certain things before other teams did, and then check them off on our checklist.

The creek activity was great – we had to catch bugs and they are called
‘macroinvertebrates’. My foot slipped in the water and I got a wet shoe! Paloma
The food was awesome because I got to eat food that I don’t normally eat at home. I
loved the animals and being in nature. Thomas.
All of the activities were fun because we were with our friends. Dakota
I loved the hamburgers and the rock climbing even though it was up high. Ethan kept
humming when I was trying to get to sleep so it took me a while! Brayden
Camp was unreal but I didn’t like using the portaloos at night. Jackson
The people who organised the activities were farmers and they were really nice. My
favourite animal was Biscuit the horse. The turkey was funny because he kept on
fluffing up his feathers. Rock climbing was scary but it was good how we worked

Pia saved me from falling when we did Respect rock climbing - Responsibility because she - Results was paying

Raffle Tickets
With some great prizes on offer, I’m sure friends and family
are very keen to buy some tickets and be a part of our great
raffle. If you need more tickets to sell please grab another
book or two from the office. Once sold, please return tickets
and money to the office.
10 sleeps
to go!
Yummy baked goods
It is nearly time to don the aprons and start baking!! There are boxes in the office for those
who are baking slices, muffins or biscuits, and some plates for cakes. If you don’t get a
box don’t fret, bring your goodies in and the lovely ladies will return your containers! The
stall co-ordinators would love them on Friday afternoon (1 st November) if possible, if not
take them to the stall on the morning of the fair.
Rides, Rides, Rides
All day passes are on sale for $17. Please complete the form and return to the office with correct
money. The tickets will come home on Friday 1 st November – you will need to bring these with you on Fair
day. Take them to the ticket booth to get your stamp and then have fun!!
AND HERE’S HOW TO GET YOUR PASS
Simply fill in the slip below and return to the office with your payment by Friday, November 1.
We will issue you with a receipt and record your name on the Master List. On the day of the
Fair, you just have to hand in your receipt to the Ticket Booth and receive your ride pass.
Remember, the earlier you get your pass, the earlier the fun begins! Day Passes will be available
at the Ticket Booth from 9.30am.

With only 1 ½ weeks to go, it is time to start
putting your yummy jams and chutneys
into jars! Don’t forget to water the veggie
patch so our home grown goodies are
ready for fair day! Sam will take all of your
homemade goodies, cut flowers, fruit and
vegetables on the morning of the fair.
Don’t forget to put together your Beautiful Basket
and send it back to school. Some great baskets have
been delivered already – so check out the office if
you are looking for inspiration. If you would like to do
more than one – grab a spare pack from the office.

to the office as soon as you can.
