<strong>Gas</strong> <strong>safety</strong><br />

Our responsibility to you<br />

We have a legal duty to make sure any gas fittings or<br />

appliances we own are well maintained and are checked by<br />

a <strong>Gas</strong> Safe registered engineer every 12 months. It is very<br />

important to allow our contractors access into your home to<br />

carry out these <strong>safety</strong> checks.<br />

Regular <strong>safety</strong> checks will:<br />

● give you peace of mind your appliances are safe and<br />

in good working order.<br />

● help keep your gas bill to a minimum.<br />

● ensure your home contents insurance remains valid.<br />

Carbon monoxide<br />

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas. It is impossible to see,<br />

smell or taste and it can kill without warning. You are at risk of<br />

carbon monoxide poisoning if your appliance is faulty, the room<br />

is not properly ventilated or the chimney/flue is blocked. Every<br />

year there are over 20 deaths and many more injuries caused<br />

by carbon monoxide poisoning and gas explosions in the UK.<br />

What are the danger signs?<br />

● Pilot light blowing out frequently<br />

● A lazy yellow/orange flame instead<br />

1iof a blue flame<br />

● Soot or stains around the appliance<br />

● Excessive condensation


Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning<br />

Action to take<br />

● Headache<br />

● Nausea and dizziness<br />

● Tired and confused<br />

● Stomach pains<br />

● Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing<br />

Is everyone in the household presenting the same<br />

symptoms at the same time?<br />

Do the symptoms go away when you are outside?<br />

If yes, and you are showing the symptoms above, go out in<br />

the fresh air and seek medical advice.<br />

If you suspect there is a gas or carbon monoxide leak in your<br />

home, you should:<br />

● immediately open all doors and windows<br />

● shut off the gas supply<br />

● call the National <strong>Gas</strong> Emergency Services on 0800 111 999<br />

This telephone number and service are FREE and available<br />

24 hours a day, 365 days a year.<br />
