GATHERING PERCEPTIONS
AND USING DATA
After a term, Year 7 teachers conducted a perception survey
with participating students to find out whether they were
identifying a benefit of focusing on their learning spaces.
Students working within the project took the data and
analysed the trends, noticing that although most students
believe the learning environment is important and they
should have input into what it is like, around 20% didn’t feel
like it was an appropriate use of teaching and learning time.
Students themselves facilitated a robust discussion about
their perspectives on this issue, considering when might
be a reasonable time to reconfigure their space if not in
lessons, or what it might take for that 20% of students to feel
that a focus on the environment is also a focus on teaching
and learning.
