Artist to give a lesson at meeting
To start off 1984 in the right spirit, I decided to
reverse the order of the gallery news listing, so will
do the alphabet backwards . . . .
San Dieguito Art Guild’s January meeting, Monday
Jan. 9 at 1:30 p.m. will feature artist Lora Lee Crystal,
a newcomer to our fair shores.
Crystal will have a demonstration / mini class.
There will be an opportunity for all to join in the fun

and conte crayon or charcoal. Crystal is a teacher, exhibitor,
gallery owner and gallery director with many
years experience all over the United States, She will
donate a painting for the guild’s raffle.

The featured artist of the month of January in
the guild’s main gallery is Claudia Brown. She will

Horvath in February.
Horvath’s show will feature watercolors and palette
knife paintings in oil. She is a graduate of San Diego Mesa
College with an associate arts degree in fine art.
The San Dieguito Art Gallery also features a monthly
art show of various members of the gallery where the
paintings are judged each month by a well known artist

POPULAR ARTISTS TO DEMONSTRATE
The San Dieguito Art and Demonstration meeting will
be at Ecke Hall - Quail Gardens, Encinitas next Monday, at
1:30 p.m. The art guild is excited about the presentation by
Stanislaus J. Sowinski, one of the most popular artists on
the West Coast. Sowinski has established a reputation in all
mediums, but his first love is watercolor Besides exhibiting
his work in many prestigious shows, Sowinski’s work
may be found on greeting cards and calendars

San Dieguito Art Guild will feature a mini show in
addition to the regular show in the month of February.
The monthly meeting at Ecke Hall in the Quail Botanical
Gardens, Encinitas will include a demonstration by Stan
Sowinski in watercolor. Sowinski is a professional artist
from the Escondido area, and is well-known for his beautiful
watercolors throughout the world. This meeting is open
to the public. Refreshments will be served Meeting time is
1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6. The featured artist at the guild
is Doris Horvath.
Location: 1038-B Highway 101 in Leucadia. Hours: 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Closed Mondays.
Carlsbad-Oceanside Art League will hold its regular
meeting at the Carlsbad Library, 1250 Elm Ave., Feb. 10
from 2-4 p.m.
Jeanne Shanahan will be the guest artist and will
demonstrate her award winning collage techniques. Born
in Los Angeles, her educational background includes
Chounard Art School and Immaculate Heart College. She
now lives in Fallbrook. Her work has been shown extensively
in San Diego county. Her reputation as an exciting
and accomplished artist, particularly in collage techniques
promises an informative and enjoyable afternoon. For further

Member artists for the month of February exhibiting
at Western Federal Savings, 2625 Vista Way, El Camino
North Shopping Center, Oceanside, will be Howard Layte,

membership show recently held at
the Carlsbad library.
Irving Lefson won first place in
the mixed media category for his
“Cape Sunset,” and best in show
for “Sailboat Soliloquy.”
In the watercolor category, Bonnie
Park won first place with her
“Street Scene,” and third place for
her “Eucalyptus,” Janice Burleigh
won first place for her oil painting,
“Eucalyptus Parade”.

awards will be on May 6th. It is not too soon to be thinking about your entries. The entries are limited to three
per person and the work should not be prior award winners. The size is limited to 48 inches in any direction

The Newport Harbor Art Museum is having a show
from April 19th to June 10th featuring the New Art
From Germany and Jess: Collages, organized by the
Ringling Art Museum.
The Parent Staff Organization of Ada Harris School
in Cardiff is having an Ice Cream Social and Cinco de
Mayo Celebration on May 5th. Guild members have
been invited to exhibit paintings. They are willing to
pick the paintings up and to return any after the affair

and other publication.
The Blue Carnation Art Gallery and Art Supply Store
is offering classes in Watercolor, Oils and Pastels.

The Fallbrook Art Association will have their Spring
show April 16th through the 21st. The Judge will be

The Carlsbad Oceanside Art League is having a bus
trip to the Getty Museum on Tuesday March 27th.

Watercolor West Bus Trip - Marge Gray is again
conducting the bus trip to Riverside on Monday April
9th. The bus leaves from Escondido at Gray’s Gallery,

and commentary by Marge Gray. The bus leaves Riverside

Smith are being shown at Western Federal saving &

THE SAN DIEGUITO ART GUILD, will exhibit
members’ works free throughout the month of May.
The guild’s Spring Art Festival this Sunday from
noon to 5 p.m. will featuring works in acrylic, oil and
watercolor, batik and sculpture. The Gallery is located

Correction
A headline in Wednesday’s paper incorrectly stated
that the San Dieguito Art Festival would take place
Saturday. The correct day is Sunday, May 6, from
noon to 5 p.m. at the art guild’s gallery on Highway
101 in Leucadia.
Local artist Pat Bynum Watkins has donated a watercolor
for the raffle ad besides a juried art show, the
event will include art at a discount.
