To start off <strong>1984</strong> in the right spirit, I decided to<br />

reverse the order of the gallery news listing, so will<br />

do the alphabet backwards . . . .<br />

<strong>San</strong> <strong>Dieguito</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Guild</strong>’s January meeting, Monday<br />

Jan. 9 at 1:30 p.m. will feature artist Lora Lee Crystal,<br />

a newcomer to our fair shores.<br />

Crystal will have a demonstration / mini class.<br />

There will be an opportunity for all to join in the fun<br />

of intuitive drawing. Bring a large size drawing pad<br />

<strong>and</strong> conte crayon or charcoal. Crystal is a teacher, exhibitor,<br />

gallery owner <strong>and</strong> gallery director with many<br />

POPULAR ARTISTS TO DEMONSTRATE<br />

The <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dieguito</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>and</strong> Demonstration meeting will<br />

1:30 p.m. The art guild is excited about the presentation by<br />

Stanislaus J. Sowinski, one of the most popular artists on<br />

the West Coast. Sowinski has established a reputation in all<br />

mediums, but his first love is watercolor Besides exhibiting<br />

his work in many prestigious shows, Sowinski’s work<br />

may be found on greeting cards <strong>and</strong> calendars<br />

<strong>Art</strong>ist’s Corner<br />

<strong>San</strong> <strong>Dieguito</strong> <strong>Art</strong> <strong>Guild</strong> will feature a mini show in<br />

addition to the regular show in the month of February.<br />

The monthly meeting at Ecke Hall in the Quail Botanical<br />

Gardens, Encinitas will include a demonstration by Stan<br />

Sowinski in watercolor. Sowinski is a professional artist<br />

from the Escondido area, <strong>and</strong> is well-known for his beautiful<br />

watercolors throughout the world. This meeting is open<br />

to the public. Refreshments will be served Meeting time is<br />

1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6. The featured artist at the guild<br />

is Doris Horvath.<br />

Carlsbad-Oceanside <strong>Art</strong> League will hold its regular<br />

Jeanne Shanahan will be the guest artist <strong>and</strong> will<br />

demonstrate her award winning collage techniques. Born<br />

in Los Angeles, her educational background includes<br />

Chounard <strong>Art</strong> School <strong>and</strong> Immaculate Heart College. She<br />

now lives in Fallbrook. Her work has been shown extensively<br />

in <strong>San</strong> Diego county. Her reputation as an exciting<br />

<strong>and</strong> accomplished artist, particularly in collage techniques<br />

Irving Lefson won first place in<br />

the mixed media category for his<br />

“Cape Sunset,” <strong>and</strong> best in show<br />

for “Sailboat Soliloquy.”<br />

Park won first place with her<br />

“Street Scene,” <strong>and</strong> third place for<br />

APRIL PAINT IN: April 14th at the <strong>Guild</strong>. Come <strong>and</strong> spend a fun day.<br />

COMING EVENT: MAY CASH AWARD SHOW. This our yearly cash award show. The reception <strong>and</strong> the<br />

awards will be on May 6th. It is not too soon to be thinking about your entries. The entries are limited to three<br />

per person <strong>and</strong> the work should not be prior award winners. The size is limited to 48 inches in any direction<br />

including the frame. The entry fee is $4.00 per entry <strong>and</strong> the take in dates are April 27th, 28th <strong>and</strong> 29th.<br />

George Kountoupis of Tulsa, Oklahoma is having an oil <strong>and</strong> watercolor workshop at the Monterey Peninsula<br />

The Parent Staff Organization of Ada Harris School<br />

in Cardiff is having an Ice Cream Social <strong>and</strong> Cinco de<br />

Mayo Celebration on May 5th. <strong>Guild</strong> members have<br />

been invited to exhibit paintings. They are willing to<br />

pick the paintings up <strong>and</strong> to return any after the affair<br />

Watercolor West Bus Trip - Marge Gray is again<br />

conducting the bus trip to Riverside on Monday April<br />

The cost is $14.00 which includes the bus trip, lunch<br />

Correction<br />

A headline in Wednesday’s paper incorrectly stated<br />

that the <strong>San</strong> <strong>Dieguito</strong> <strong>Art</strong> Festival would take place<br />

Saturday. The correct day is Sunday, May 6, from<br />

noon to 5 p.m. at the art guild’s gallery on Highway<br />

101 in Leucadia.<br />

Local artist Pat Bynum Watkins has donated a watercolor<br />

for the raffle ad besides a juried art show, the<br />

event will include art at a discount.
