JOB DESCRIPTION<br />
Position: <strong>Estimator</strong><br />
Department: Estimating, <strong>Mining</strong> <strong>Services</strong> Division<br />
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION<br />
The <strong>Estimator</strong> formulates budgets, proposals, methodologies and conceptual estimates<br />
for various construction, engineering and mining projects.<br />
The <strong>Estimator</strong> will demonstrate <strong>DMC</strong>’s core values of: Zero Harm, Respect and Integrity,<br />
Entrepreneurial Spirit, and Operational Excellence.<br />
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<br />
1. Review bid documents and define methodologies.<br />
2. Estimate productivities, equipment and manpower requirements<br />
3. Estimate capital and operating costs, from first principles.<br />
4. Schedule estimates, projects and resources.<br />
5. Monthly and Daily production schedules.<br />
6. Monitor project progress and issue cost reports as required.<br />
7. Provide cash flow projections to generate net present values, rates of return and<br />
paybacks.<br />
8. Preparation and maintenance of tender documents including contract language.<br />
9. Conduct feasibility studies<br />
10. Budget preparation to support field cost management.<br />
11. Establish and implement cost control activities<br />
12. Conduct site visits as required<br />
13. Produce documentation for economic appraisals of acquisitions or new mine<br />
projects.<br />
14. Performance analysis for tasks within the mining cycle.<br />
15. Liaison with industry suppliers to maintain current price database.<br />
16. Draw, sketch and draft drawings as required.<br />
17. Advise and facilitate in management bid reviews.<br />
18. Draws upon all necessary resources to resolve any project or proposal<br />
challenges.<br />
19. Support project from start-up to completion as required.
20. Takes responsibility for aspects of occupational health and safety, and<br />
environmental matters, over which the individual has control, including adherence<br />
to all requirements applicable to <strong>DMC</strong>.<br />
21. Demonstrate commitment to the continued improvement of Occupational Health,<br />
Safety and Environment<br />
22. Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time<br />
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE<br />
Minimum 7 yrs experience in <strong>Mining</strong> industry<br />
Minimum 3 years experience directly related to contract estimating.<br />
Degree qualification or technical diploma in mining engineering.<br />
Computer skills<br />
o Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point<br />
o Lotus 123<br />
o Primavera<br />
o ACAD and/or simulation software<br />
o Bid2Win and/or Tonto estimating software<br />
o Industry research protocols, (Internet)<br />
Effective oral and/or written communication skills.<br />
Skilled and often certified in professional engineering principles and methods.<br />
