Cooking Column

On August 7, 2011 Adnane Mezouar arrived at
RDU from Morocco as part of the YES program
having earned a scholarship through the US Dept.
of State.
The Goreman Family of Granville County had
hosted 8 students before choosing Adnane’s profile.
“We were very excited to learn more about Morocco
this year,” she said.
“We encouraged
Adnane to join sports
at Granville Central
High School so he
chose to try American
football for the first
time, he became part
of the wrestling team
next and decided to
take a break from
sports for the
Spring.”
“We enjoyed
seeing Granville
County through
Adnane’s eyes during
the year and hearing
how some things
Adnane Mezouar
were the same as in Morocco while other things
were very different,” she added.
Through family trips, daily life activities, school
and community involvement the Goreman family
added Adnane as their newest son.
“We’ve grown to be very close to him. Hosting
a CIEE student has been very rewarding for our
family this year and we encourage other Granville
area families to also take advantage of this
wonderful opportunity by choosing a student
through the website at www.ciee.org/highschool.
“One of Adnane’s final activities here was to
attend the Butner Chicken Pickin’ which he really
enjoyed.” We will definitely miss Adnane and stay
in touch with him as much as possible.”

THIS WEEK’S RECIPES
CRAB DIP
1 lb. lump crab meat
8 oz. sour cream
8 oz. cream cheese
1/2 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
4 tsp mayonnaise
4 shakes of Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp Garlic salt
1 tsp. paprika
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a 9x11
casserole dish. Set aside shredded cheddar cheese
and paprika. Combine remaining ingredients. Mix
well. Pour into casserole dish. Sprinkle paprika on
top of cheese. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove cover and bake an additional 15 minutes
or until firm. Serve with toasted pita bread or your
favorite toasted bread.
STRAWBERRY CAKE
2 bars cream cheese
1 box yellow cake
1 cup sugar
3 cups fresh strawberries
1 large container of Cool Whip
2 pie shells
Mix all ingredients together and add
strawberries. Pour into prepared pie shells, chill and
serve.
BUTTERMILK FRIED CHICKEN
4 split chicken breast
2 cups buttermilk
2 cups flour
2 cups canola oil
In a cast iron skillet heat oil. Coat chicken breasts
in buttermilk and roll in flour. Fry chicken in hot
grease until cooked through. Remove to plate covered
in paper towels to drain excess grease before serving.
BAKED PORK LOIN
1 whole boneless pork loin
Lemon pepper seasoning to taste
Garlic powder to taste
1 jar orange marmalade
Season pork loin to taste and bake covered at 375
degrees for one hour. Turn oven off and leave pork
loin sitting in oven for one hour. Remove from oven
and heat oven to broil.
Pour marmalade over pork loin and broil for five
minutes or until marmalade begins to bubble and
pork loin is brown.
MARIA’S APPLE PIE
4 med. Granny Smith apples
Juice & zest from 1 orange
1-1/2 cups brown sugar
2 Tbls. flour
1/2 cup orange juice
2 Tbls. corn starch
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup margarine
Cut apples into small bits, put in bowl and add 1
cup brown sugar, juice and zest from orange, and stir
well. Boil raisins in 1/2 cup of orange juice and let
cool. Add apples and let stand for 1 hour. Spoon apple
mixture into unbaked pie shells and add remaining
1/2 cup brown sugar, cornstarch, flour, and margarine
to remaining liquid in bowl. Spoon over apples and
bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

LIVES
Will got a hold of E.J.’s
hidden document and
finally learned that E.J.
is not Stefano’ son. Armed
with this powerful
information, Will confronted
E.J. and
threatened to go to the
police unless E.J.
reinstates all the perks of
his job and teaches Will
everything he knows.
Pushed by Will to take
the lie detector test that
would remove him as a
suspect, E.J. arrived at
the police station. Rafe
denied Sami’s accusation
that he fathered Carrie’s
baby. However, Austin
had doubts that Carrie is
really over Rafe, a fear
that was proved to be
true as Carrie and Rafe’s
attraction was obvious.
Gabi was appalled to
learn that Andrew has
Melanie captive, but was
trapped into accepting
the situation when
Andrew implied that
she’d be in trouble for
hiring him.
GENERAL
HOSPITAL
After John accused
Joe Scully Jr. of
murdering his half-sister,
Joe denied to a menacing
Sonny that he hurt Kate/
Connie, but revealed
something shocking
about the baby she
abandoned. Anna’s
questioning of Tracy
about the night
Anthony’s body disappeared
left her with
more that she needs to
know. Heather persuaded
Luke to write a
letter to Anna. Spying on
Todd, Sam declared that
she’s surprised he’s
working with Kate, given
what she stole from him.
Starr and Michael grew
