ServSafe was
developed by the
Education Foundation of
the National
Restaurant Association,
which
provides
certification to all who
successfully complete the
course and the written
examination. The state of
North Carolina awards
two points on quarterly
restaurant inspections for
completion of ServSafe.
The cost of the course
is $65, plus the cost of the
textbook and a $3 Campus
Security/Access Fee.

VIKINGS HOST ROAD
RACE IN CREEDMOOR
The Viking 5
km(3.1miles) and One
Mile road races will take
place in Creedmoor on
July 21.The event’s
registration, start and
finish will be located at
South Granville High
School and is hosted by
South Granville’s Cross
Country team. Race day
activities begin with
registration at 7:15 am,
the 5 km starts at 8:30
am, and the One Mile race
will begin at 9:00 am.
Proceeds from the event
will benefit the Area
Congregations in
Ministry Food Pantry and
help support the Cross
Country team’s activities
in 2012. The 5 km race
course will be certified by
USATF and both events
will be sanctioned by
USATF.
It is thought that, the
Viking 5 km is the first
event of its kind in
southern Granville
County. Race organizers
hope to get the entire
community involved in
some way or another.
Race director and Vikings
Coach Mark Straubel said
“We really want to get a
lot of kids involved and
their parent’s too for that
matter”. Entry fee for
either race is only $10 for
those 18 and under and
includes a t shirt. “You
can run, walk or
volunteer. Should be a lot
of fun for everyone” said
Straubel.
The Creedmoor Police
Department and the
Granville County
Sheriff’s Department will
provide traffic control.

Dr. Stelfanie Williams, the president of Vance-Granville
Community College, was the guest speaker at the
Granville County Chamber of Commerce’s Women in
Business Luncheon, held on June 19 at the college’s
South Campus. Williams presented general information
about how the college serves the community and how it
seeks to grow and respond to local needs. She said that
last year, VGCC served 5,910 students in curriculum
programs and 10,135 students in Community and
Economic Development (non-credit) programs. Those
students attended classes at 35 different locations in
Granville County, as well as numerous other sites in the
other three counties served by VGCC. Williams also
reported that the most recent VGCC golf tournament
raised a record-high amount -- approximately $33,250 --
for the college’s Endowment Fund and Scholarship
Program.
