CATHOLIC YOUTH
Parramatta Diocese Youth Rally
We’re bringing back our first large
scale youth event to the Diocese
of Parramatta for all young people
aged 16-35. 22 October marks the
Feast Day of Saint John Paul II,
Founder of our Diocese and Father of
World Youth Days. A huge outdoor
concert and festival will take place
on Saturday 24 October from 7pm
to 9:30pm in the Cathedral Precinct.
We have particularly invited school
students, teachers, and young adults
who are attending the Australian
Catholic Youth Festival in Adelaide
this December, and all those
registered or still discerning joining
us for World Youth Day in Poland
next year. That being said, this is
an event open to all as we celebrate
the young Catholic Church in the
Diocese of Parramatta.
HSC Youth Masses
Parra-Matters!
Answering the Tough Questions
This recent event was a great team
effort by so many youth and young
adults across the Diocese. Incredible
music before the blessing ceremony was
provided by Blacktown Parish Youth
Minister and Diocese Youth Council
member, Alison Ryan. Thanks goes
to the many others who helped with
welcoming the hundreds of guests.
Good luck to our HSC students this month. We have personally invited
each and every one of them to almost 30 parishes that have elected to dedicate
a special youth mass to them in the week leading up to their first exam on
Monday 12 October. They’re offering them a blessing, a BBQ, and some unique
gifts to keep them going. Let’s get behind them!
A highlight has been seeing youth
and young adults making a pilgrimage to
the statues over the last month at various
times of the day and night, and posting
their prayerful pictures online. What an
incredible asset these monuments will be
to the life of the Diocese, and especially
young people and those involved in
future World Youth Days.
The youth leaders of Emu Plains Parish
provided wonderful hospitality, music,
and background information on their
local ministry. The core part of the
evening was an opportunity for everyone
to learn a framework for deconstructing
loaded statements that are often packed
with multiple smaller questions. David
Bradshaw was brilliant at doing this for us
and providing some real examples from his
time in youth ministry. This month’s Parra-
Matters will be hosted by Granville Parish
and will feature a presentation by our teams
from Parramatta Young Christian Workers
(YCW) and Young Christian Students
(YCS) on the services and experiences that
they provide to youth with the support of
the Diocese.
