The International School of Azerbaijan TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT POLICY THE CRITERIA Criteria A – Investigation (6) This criteria assesses the student‟s ability to write: Design Brief – overview of project Research – analysis, evaluation of sources of information to help in creation of project. What ideas can the research give them to design specs for a project. Design Specifications – list of criteria describing essential, desirable and undesirable features and characteristics of product solution Testing Details – descriptions of how final product will be tested against design specification (3 tests) Bibliography – MLA format of all sources and cited within text Criteria B – Design (6) Students produce 3+ designs for a possible product solution. Each design must be evaluated against the design spec and final choice justified. Criteria C – Plan (6) Students develop a detailed logical plan of how their product will be created showing use of time, resources and skills and techniques needed. Plan must be evaluated. Criteria D – Create (6) Students create product by following their design specification, design and plan. A detailed, dated process journal must be kept. Criteria E – Evaluation (6) Students test their finished product and evaluate it against the design specification. The evaluation includes: self testing, feedback from end users, evaluation of their performance, suggestions for improvement and effect of society/environment etc. Criteria E – Attitude (6) Students‟ attitude to work, such as their motivation, cooperation with others, attention to safety and timely handing in of work. HOMEWORK POLICY MYP Students will not be able to carry out practical applications at home due to lack of software and tools. However, the following can be completed at home: Criteria A, B, C and E. Students are expected to plan how to carry out these criteria both in class and at home. Time is allocated at home, as well as in class, to complete projects and other tasks. Late submission of work incurs reduced points for Criteria F. Late work also entails detention. After one reminder a zero is given for late work unless there is a reasonable excuse. Homework is not set on any particular day as it depends on the stage of a project task. 30
The International School of Azerbaijan Students must plan when to do their homework as part of fulfilling their planning criteria. M5 homework has to be saved electronically. Other homework is saved in a format at the discretion of the teacher. Homework is collected (or saved on server) during the lesson. Homework is returned with a highlighted, and/or commented, rubric attached so that students can see exactly how and why they have scored a certain level. M4 term 2 – 3 use the MYP unmodified criteria. M5 use the MYP unmodified criteria. TYPES OF FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT CT – use of worksheets with exercises to learn software. There are several tasks that test student understanding of software ie criteria D. In DT each design and workshop skill is assessed.
