Road Service is available to AANT Members only. A
member of AANT is entitled to service for any vehicle they
are driving at the time of breakdown (conditions apply).
■■
AANT Membership is personal and therefore service
does not cover any person other than the member. It
cannot be transferred to or be used by anyone other
than the named financial member.
■■
You (the member) must be the driver of the vehicle
at the time of the breakdown and must be present upon
arrival of the AANT Service Provider to receive
Road Service.
■■
Your AANT Membership must be financial at the time of
requesting service.
■■
You must present your AANT Membership card to the
AANT Service Provider upon arrival. If you are unable
to produce your current AANT Membership card at the
time of service you may be charged at the normal rate
by the AANT contractor.
■■
In instances where service is required in a location
where the road is unsurfaced or a road which is not
trafficable by a conventional 2 wheel drive vehicle, a
cost may be incurred which must be borne by the
member at the time of service.
■■
When seeking a refund from AANT, Road Service paid
by you (the member) will be calculated at the AANT
contractor rate.
■■
A serviced area is any area in Australia where you are
able to obtain Road Service from AANT or equivalent
Associations or Clubs affiliated with the Australian
Automobile Association.
■■
A non-serviced area is any area where these services
are not available through an Association or Club
affiliated with the Australian Automobile Association.
■■
Provision of assistance/services to vehicles, caravans
by an improved public road using a conventional
2-wheel drive vehicle. By definition an ‘improved public
road’ is a road where the surface of which has been
prepared, formed, metalled or gravelled and trafficable
at the time and complies with the definitions stated in
the ‘SA Road Traffic Act’ and the Australian Road Rules.
■■
In the instance where a vehicle has broken down prior
to you joining AANT, a service fee, entrance fee and
minimum Plus level of membership will apply.
■■
Road Service is essentially aimed at getting a vehicle
back on the road or to a garage for permanent repairs,
although minor repairs may be carried out on the spot
if they can be done within a reasonable time using
available hand tools.
General Membership
Terms and Conditions
All AANT Members are bound by the Rules of the
Association and Regulations, as amended from time to
time, and by any specific terms and conditions imposed
under these Rules. Copies of the Rules can be obtained
by writing to:
Operations Manager
AANT
GPO Box 2584
DARWIN NT 0801
The following Terms & Conditions provide further guidance
regarding the provision of AANT services and application
of various benefits.
Nature of Road Services
AANT Road Service is a vehicle breakdown service
aimed at providing members with timely assistance in
the event of an unexpected mechanical or electrical fault/
failure of the vehicle/towed unit. You (the member) must
be the driver of the vehicle at the time of the breakdown
and must be present upon arrival of the AANT Service
Provider to receive Road Service.
■■
The service is aimed at diagnosing the fault, and where
possible, effecting a safe repair at the roadside. The
extent of a minor repair able to be undertaken at the
roadside is limited to circumstances where available
parts and hand tools can be used to complete the work
in a reasonable period of time. The service provider
in attendance will make such a determination. Where
mobilising the vehicle/towed unit is not possible, a
tow may be provided within the member’s level of
membership entitlement.
■■
AANT Membership does not cover you for Road Service
or towing of your accident-damaged vehicle/towed unit.
No refund policy
■■
AANT Membership entrance and subscription fees
are non-refundable, with any unused proportion of the
subscription forfeited upon cancellation of membership.
Pro-rata refunds are not available.
■■
Upon written request, any unexpired or unused
standard portion of a membership subscription, at the
date of cancellation, may be transferred to another
current AANT Member.
Unattended vehicles
■■
AANT Road Service, including towing, is not available to
unattended vehicles.
■■
Should a second call-out be required due to the
vehicle being initially unattended, the member will
be charged a fee.
Defected vehicle
■■
Members driving vehicles, which have been defected
by the Police and/or authorised Government Officer, are
only entitled to AANT Road Service provided that the
breakdown is not related to the reason for the defect.
■■
Free towing is not available if the defect is the reason for
the tow.
Upgrade policy
If you upgrade your level of membership, the entire
membership subscription fee applicable to that upgraded
level of membership will be payable, and any unused or
unexpired portion of your previous membership class will
be credited at renewal if you elect to continue with Plus/
Premium level of membership.
Refusal of service
Any circumstance or incident where a member’s verbal or
physical conduct puts at risk the health, safety or well-being
of an AANT employee or contractor, or jeopardises their
ability to safely carry out their responsibilities may result
in the immediate suspension of access to AANT services
under that membership. Such incidents will be formally
investigated, with the member being provided with an
opportunity to explain their actions.
40
41

Termination of membership
A member who abuses, offends or puts at risk any
member of AANT’s staff or any contractor in the carrying
out of their usual duties may be charged with conduct
detrimental to AANT. In such cases the AANT Council has
the power to expel the person from membership of AANT.
Upon expulsion from AANT, the member forfeits all rights
and claims on AANT.
Suspension of membership
A financial member of AANT may apply in writing to have
their membership suspended for a period of up to two (2)
years. Granting of any suspension request is solely at the
discretion of AANT. If granted, all membership obligations,
entitlements and rights will be suspended, and you will
not be able to access or utilise any membership related
benefit or service for the period of suspension.
Continuous years of membership
■■
Maintaining continuity of your membership brings
with it additional benefit entitlements. To access these
additional benefits, Membership Subscriptions must be
maintained as financial without interruption.
■■
AANT will also recognise and/or credit additional
membership years (for the purpose of determining
continuous years of membership) where a person
transfers a current membership of an affiliated motoring
organisation to AANT.
Membership verification/validation
■■
All members of AANT are issued with a personal,
unique membership number, and official membership
identification, in the form of a membership card or
membership key tag.
■■
Membership cards and membership key tags remain
the property of AANT and are not transferable.
■■
Membership cards are not valid until signed by you.
The membership card is not a credit card and does not
provide any explicit benefits in its own right, but rather is
purely for identification purposes.
■■
The membership card or membership key tag should be
presented in all dealings with AANT or when accessing
member services or entitlements. In circumstances
where you are unable to produce your membership
identification, you may be required to provide alternative
forms of identification or certify your entitlement to
service in writing.
■■
In some cases a service fee may be charged, which
may be refundable. If membership is subsequently
confirmed such fees and charges will be reimbursed up
to the extent of your membership entitlement.
■■
Any benefit obtained by presenting the membership
card or membership key tag may be subject to separate
terms and conditions as amended from time to time.
■■
AANT is not liable for any malfunction of the
membership card nor for any unauthorised use of the
card or delays in issuing or replacing the card.
■■
You must notify AANT immediately if your membership
identification is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed.
Membership subscription fees
■■
These are payable in advance with rates set and
approved by the AANT Council. Upon receipt of
applicable entrance and/or subscription fees by AANT,
you are recorded as an AANT Member. No pensioner or
other concessions are applicable to subscription fees.
■■
The entrance fee is only charged once, provided your
membership does not lapse.
■■
Where a membership subscription or other debt
to AANT is overdue, access to Road Service and
membership services and benefits may be denied
pending payment of any outstanding subscription or
other fees.
■■
Any member whose subscription is overdue for more
than three (3) months will cease to be a member of
AANT and will not be entitled to access any benefits
and entitlements of membership.
■■
At the discretion of AANT, and upon payment of
outstanding and overdue subscription fees and
other charges, a person may have their membership
reinstated.
42
43

Changing membership details
■■
Only the named member or a person authorised by the
named member may request a change in membership
details.
■■
Certain changes in member personal details may
require the lodgment of documented proof prior
to actioning by AANT.
Cancellation of membership
■■
A member may cancel their membership at any time by
providing either verbal or written notification to AANT,
provided both the individual making the request and
the membership concerned can be positively verified.
Cancellation of membership cannot be backdated.
