Kizzy Wylie to Star in Wyvern Theatre, Swindon
Devizes School Year 10 student Kizzy Wylie was chosen to
star in the Regional Youth Ballet performance of Les Sylphides
at the Swindon Wyvern Theatre, showing on 18th and 19th
September.
Back in July, Kizzy attended auditions and was picked as only
one of 10 dancers to perform from the county. Throughout the
summer holidays she worked very hard, attending regular
rehearsals in preparation for the performances.
Kizzy has attended ballet classes and has loved to dance for
10 years, since she was four years old. She attends the
Charlotte School of Dance in Devizes outside of school. In
school Kizzy has taken part in many performing arts events
including the school production of ‘Oliver’ in January 2015 and
the CAPA Faculty trip to Disneyland Paris where she
performed with others on stage in the Disney Park.
Kizzy was excited about her performance, which included four
dances within the performance and had several costume
changes!
Well done and congratulations Kizzy!
Devizes School Student Selected to Swim for County
Alex Sharman, a Year 8 student at Devizes School has been
selected to represent Wiltshire at the 2015 National Inter-county
Swimming Championships to be held in Sheffield on 18th
October.
Alex started swimming lessons aged three, and joined his first
swimming club, age six. A year later he won every event in his
age group at the club championships. At age eight, he transferred
to Trowbridge swimming club, to have the experience of
swimming under head coach, and former Australian Olympic
800M swimmer, Sarah Paton. Alex quickly established himself
in the club, becoming a member of the club’s B team for the
Wiltshire Winter League just after his ninth birthday, and
progressing to become a regular in the club’s A team the same
year. Since then, Alex has enjoyed training and competing at a
wider variety of competitions, winning Gold medals at the
Wiltshire Championships age nine, then reaching the National
Finals of the schools Biathlon age 10.
His tenth year however, was less successful due to injury. Alex suffered a badly broken arm whilst
wakeboarding on holiday, and which failed to heal properly, ultimately requiring an operation, and several
months recuperation. Undaunted, Alex got back into the water at the first opportunity.
Alex’s parents, Adrian and Kate, are delighted by his selection. They said “Alex had a really tough time
when he was 10 years old with injury. Yet throughout that, he remained positive and determined to get
back in the water and start winning medals again. His drive and determination have really shown in the
past year, and we are really proud of what he has achieved so far.”
Good luck and well done Alex!
