Nellie was born at Waskatenau, Alberta. She served in the Army during WWII. She lived in Weyburn with her family and then moved to Moose Jaw. She is predeceased by her husband Charles; infant daughter; parents Allen and Lauren Sampson and a brother Alister Sampson. Chislett of Moose Jaw passed away suddenly on Tuesday October 13, 2015 at the age of 86. Born August 17, 1929 at Bethany, Manitoba. He married Shirley (Montgomery) in Surrey, BC on October 19, 1957. Clifford and Shirley enjoyed many a car ride in the countryside. Cliff served as an Air Force Technician for 33 years with the R.C.A.F. He served in Trenton, Ontario, Zweibrücken, Germany, Calgary, Alberta, Cold Lake, Alberta and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 1985 he joined the Commissionaires retiring from SIAST in 2001. After SIAST he enjoyed many hours of Bridge with his Wednesday afternoon Bridge Boys. He is predeceased by his parents Alfred and Laura; daughter Kari Lea; two brothers and two sisters. Clifford will be sadly missed by his wife Shirley and son Darin. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday October 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Rosedale Cemetery. Al was born May 11th, 1914 on the family farm 3 miles north of Central Butte. After graduating high school he went to Normal School in Moose Jaw in 1934-35. Al proceeded to teach school for the next 35 ½ years. His teaching career began in the Littleville School (1936-40), the Butte View School (1941-42, 1947-50) and finally in the Central Butte School from 1950-78. During this time he taught many children and in several instances, taught one or two generations of the same family. Al served his country by enlisting in the RCAF. In 1943 he was stationed in Saskatoon, transferred to Lachine, Quebec in 1944, and then on to Yorkshire and Devonshire, England from 1944-46. Al married Fae Snider in October 1939. He married Audrey Robertson in March 1972. The Legion was a big part of Al’s life. He served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Central Butte Legion #213 from 1950-81 and was a Life Member since 1981. He also served his community by acting as Secretary-Treasurer of the Central Butte Ambulance Board from 1985-94 and was one of the founding members of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Central Butte Masonic Lodge #114 (AF&AM) from 1952-90, during which he served in several capacities including Master of the Lodge. Al enjoyed life, liked to dance and socialize with family and friends. He enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and also curling. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Lucy Emerson; brother, Lloyd; first wife, Fae; second wife, Audrey; and son, Gorald. Al will be lovingly remembered by his son, Blain (Laurel) of Hudson Bay; daughters: Brenda (Earl) Stirling-Brown of Nipawin and Linda (Ron) Colwell of Central Butte; grandchildren: Kimberly, Jeffrey, Ryley, Darren, Darla, Devin, Gillian, Stacey, Carla and Marty; 14 great-grandchildren; stepson and step-daughter, Bill Robertson and Diana McMillan and her children Cameron and Janelle. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Central Butte United Church with Pastor Doug Neufeld officiating. MOOSEJAWEXPRESS.COM • Wednesday, October 21, 2015 • PAGE A31 Marion Laurie Pearson Marion Laurie Pearson passed away on October 13, 2015 in Saskatoon at the age of 88 years. Marion suffered for more than 50 years with chronic lung problems yet led a full and active life. Marion was born on the family farm near Expanse, SK on August 31, 1927, the youngest of four children born to Andrew and Marion Gibson (nee Laurie). She attended school at Expanse. She married Carl Pearson in 1946 and together they had two sons, John Gibson (1950) and Laurie Carl (1952). During their time together they lived on farmsteads near Expanse, Dunkirk and Ardill, SK before moving to Moose Jaw in 1954. Carl and Marion separated in 1956. Marion obtained her first job at the Saskatchewan Training School, later called Valley View Centre, in 1955 and worked there until Grant Devine in his wisdom, offered a golden handshake in 1984 which she gleefully accepted. While at Valley View she worked at several positions culminating in several years as the Head Housekeeper. Marion bought her first home at Prairie Oasis Trailer Court where she lived for more than 20 years. When the home and yard became too much to handle she moved into Willow Grove Apartments on Wolfe Ave. where she made many new friends to coffee and visit with. As her illness progressed she moved into The Bentley Assisted Living Home on 4th Avenue in 2014 and in April of 2015, she moved to Saskatoon to be closer to John and Rena. In her retirement years Marion enjoyed the weekly dances at the Army Navy and Air Force Veterans Club in Moose Jaw and travelling to visit her sister Agnes (and husband Lorne) in Henderson, Nevada and to Hawaii with her sister Margaret (and husband George). A highlight was travelling to the New Cumnock area (Ayrshire) of Scotland to see the home of her parents. Another of her passions was knitting. Each of her great-grandchildren has an afghan she knitted and she has kept the family supplied with mitts, dish clothes and her son John with socks over the last 25 years. For the past 25 years she supplied all of her children and grandchildren with Christmas Baking – an effort that took several months and many recipes in order to satisfy each ones favorite goodie. Marion is predeceased by her father Andrew in 1961, her mother Marion in 1979, her brother-in-law Lorne Phillips in 2001, her sister Margaret Briggs in 2007 and husband George in 2003, brother Hugh Gibson in 2008 and wife Valerie in 2014, and son Laurie in 2011. She is survived by sister Agnes Phillips of Henderson, NV, son John (Rena) of Saskatoon, daughter-in-law Delores of Moose Jaw, grandchildren Nicole (George) Carle and Michelle (Steve) Erdahl of Moose Jaw, Mark (Valerie) Pearson of Elkwater, AB, Erin (Randy) Berrns of Saskatoon, Brett (Janel) Pearson of Flin Flon, MB and Mathew Pearson (Caroline Vanderloo) of Lima, Peru as well as 10 great-grandchildren – soon to be 12. The family would like to thank those at the Bentley in Moose Jaw and those at the Prairie Springs Care Home in Saskatoon for the wonderful care and support that Marion received while living with them, as well as the Home Care Workers in Moose Jaw for the care she received. We would also like to thank her good friend Lynn Gajadhar for the many years of friendship and support and also her good friend Valerie MacFarlane who offered kind and thoughtful support. You both brought joy and peace into her life. A family interment service will be held at Sunset Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 followed by a Celebration Luncheon at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W, Moose Jaw, SK at 2:00 pm to which all of Marion’s friends and family are invited. Marge, at the age of 91, predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph (2002), and by her son Kevin (2009). Loving mother of Garry (Judy), Ron (Madeline), Janice Mitchell (Cameron) and Debbie Burgher (John), and daughter-in-law Donna. Cherished grandmother of 14, and great-grandmother of 14. She will be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Marge was born on June 22, 1924 to Charles and Lena Williams on the family homestead near Bayard, SK. She and her 3 siblings grew up attending the Ridley School in the Blue Hill district. She met Joseph Flegel when her brother was dating Joseph’s sister, leading to a double wedding on November 25, 1942. Following their marriage, she and Joe farmed together just a few miles away, raising their five children in the Bayard district. After 60 years of farming, Marge and Joe sold the farm and retired to Moose Jaw in the fall of 1990. They enjoyed many years of traveling to different parts of the world. They also enjoyed visiting and playing cards. Marge loved bowling, taking several trophies and a provincial championship. She was also an avid reader and always had a crossword puzzle close at hand. Marge made a huge contribution to all the family by compiling the Williams and Flegel family histories. A few years after Joe’s passing in 2002, with failing memory, it became necessary for Marge to move from their home on Holdsworth Cres, to Oxford Place and then on to Extendicare where she could receive the care she needed. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Ave. NW, Moose Jaw. Marge will be laid to rest beside her husband Joseph at Rosedale Cemetery following the service. Perry Juttla, a 32-year-old entrepreneur from Regina, officially announced his candidacy at the last hour; signs were erected throughout the city. As this was published just prior to the election, the results will be out by the time this is read and we will see if it has been a fortunate time for a Liberal candidate, as Justin Trudeau’s popularity seemed to be on the rise in Canada. Recent polls had Trudeau Liberals leading the pack amongst the three big parties. “I think the Liberals have the best approach to solving the problems we currently face,” Perry said; “That’s what we have to do. We have to put things in place to help the people who need it.” “I’m someone who doesn’t back down from a challenge,” he said, citing many instances in his business career where he was faced with adversity and struggled through it to find success. As a second generation Liberal Party politician (his father ran for MP in Regina once), Perry understands the adversity his party came through. He’s seen the failures of both Michael Ignatieff and Stephane Dion and he’s seen the corruption of former Liberal prime ministers and senators. “I understand why people are upset, but that was a different time,” he said. Now he wants to enact a Transparency Measure for the senate to prevent any further corruption in the upper house. He is in favour of a seniors’ index to monitor and control the prices of goods and services for seniors. He wants tax incentives for home owners. He wants a tax increase for the richest one per cent. But most importantly, Perry wants people in charge “who are qualified to lead the country.” On the TPP: “I don’t think trade is a bad thing, but first we need to make sure our businesses can succeed”. On Mental Health: “Since 2004 150 Canadians have died in combat but 170 have committed suicide. That’s not right. It needs to change.” On ISIS: “It’s scary, but we can’t assume all Syrians are terrorists.” “I’m a man of my word.” he continued, “my past has prepared me well. I know what it’s like to budget and be prepared. I’ve been humbled. I know what it’s like to see things through. I want to leave a legacy.
