FEBRUARY 2008
The New Year is in full swing! New semesters are beginning; winter sport
seasons are wrapping up and spring is just around the corner.
Are you planning to participate in a spring sport? Perhaps you’ve joined a
club that will keep you busy? Get involved and stay involved, it’s the best
choice you can make!
If your having difficulties with your schoolwork, please ask your school
counselor, host family or AC to help you find a tutor, don’t wait till it’s to
late!
Host families, you have learned so much, maybe even a few new things
about teenagers. How they can all be the same no matter where they were
born. Then again, how people of the same age can think BECAUSE they
were raised in a different culture. Thank you again host families for your
joy, patience, car rides, forgiveness and support, attendance at school
functions, smiles and appreciation shown to your students.
We are placing students right now for the 2008-09 school year. If you
know a neighbor, co-worker or friend that would enjoy this great

Notes from students! February 2008
Le/ China had a wonderful Christmas.
He visited family for dinner and watched
movies. Le also discovered he liked
eating marshmallows.
Juliana/ Colombia enjoyed Christmas
with her family and has found she likes
snow skiing.
Jurai/Slovakia likes to hang out with his
friends and snowboard.
Marie-Jeanette/Germany has been to
Seattle three times and liked the
decorations in the city. She enjoyed the
New Year in New York with 270 other
foreign exchange students. She is
looking forward to snow skiing with
friends.
Gina/Germany enjoyed the holidays with her
family and loves to play in the snow.
Asano/Japan went to “Zoolights” and attended a
funny musical with her host family over the
holidays.
Cassy/Germany saw the theatrical presentation of
“Jesus Christ, Superstar.”
Rika/Japan, Ai/Japan, Moeko S/Japan,
Kristina N/Germany
Henric/Germany took a mini vacation to the
Oregon coast with his host family. He has tried
out for the school musical, “Julius Caesar” and is
looking forward to the production in March.
Pedro/Brazil-Mexico went to a Seattle Sonics
basketball game with friends. He and his host
family are planning a trip to Illinois to visit family
and friends.
Hyun Woo (Eric)/Korea saw the play "A Charlie
Brown Christmas" during the holiday vacation.
Hsiang (Tommy)/Taiwan enjoyed his very first
white Christmas and had a great time at a Sonics
basketball game with friends.

Pawan (Bank)/Thailand Cut down a real
Christmas tree for the first time and loved the
experience.
Patricia/Brazil
Catalina (Caty)/Mexico spent a day in Seattle and
saw the Space Needle and then went to eat at the
Cheesecake Factory.
Xinran (Julia)/China participated in a DECCA
competition with her marketing class. She placed
fourth over all and will compete in the statewide
event in April.
Yukii H/Japan has been very busy playing
basketball for her high school team. She likes the
snow and was able to do some inner tubing near
Mt. Rainier.
Moeko/Japan recently joined the international
club at school and was elected Treasurer.
Patricia/Brazil is enjoying her being a part of the
high school basketball team and is planning a trip
to DisneyLand for spring break.
Slim/Belgium’s soccer team finished the season
in December by winning the first place title with
his team for the State President’s Cup competition
for the boys U19.

Henrieke/Germany participated in the local dance
company’s Nutcracker. She went skiing over the
holidays.
Konstantin/Germany has started practicing for
spring soccer. He went skiing with his host family
and traveled to Idaho to visit family.
Ayumi N/Japan celebrated New Year's Eve with
her friends at "First Night" in Tacoma.
Ayumi Y/Japan participated in some band
concerts and helped decorate her host families
home.
Eva/Germany traveled to New York with other
exchange students to celebrate the New Year and
to explore the city.
Caroline/Germany enjoyed Seattle and liked
getting her presents on Christmas morning instead
of Christmas Eve like she does in Germany.
Barbara/Italy went skiing with friends and family
and is learning to crochet.
Ahsa (Ami)/Japan enjoys basketball and is
looking for a dance club to participate in for
spring.
Telmuun/Mongolia’s entire family has been snow
skiing.
Joao/Brazil-Mexico is looking forward to spring
soccer!
Paula/Brazil-Mexico likes the snow but can’t wait
for spring!
Borja/Spain went skiing with friends and family
and is hoping to play spring soccer.
Lukas/Germany likes biking and skiing!
Nonthakit/Best/Thailand’s host sister gave birth
to a baby boy on Christmas Day. He went skiing
for the first time and also volunteered at a
children's activity in the park where he dressed up
as a snowman.
Yoo Ji/Korea cooked bulgogi on Christmas, a
traditional Korean dish, which her family
enjoyed.
Regina/Mexico was a narrator in the Martin
Luther King Jr. play at school.
Mei/Japan is on the varsity bowling team at
school. Mei and her host sister cooked Japanese
food as part of their Christmas celebration.
Eun Ji/Korea is on the school bowling team.
Cindy/Belgium and her host family spent New
Year's Eve in Seattle where they enjoyed
watching the fireworks.
Ayumi Y
Mariana/Mexico is helping her host mother make
clothes and decorate teddy bears for a Girl Scout
service project.
Julia/Germany had several extended family
members stay with her family during Christmas.
She is planning to leave the end of January and
will miss her host family and friends.
Rika/Japan visited the Space Needle and had
dinner out with her host family.
Kristina/Germany spent Hannukah with her host
family. A prior exchange student came to stay
during the holiday and they all went to Paradise
and played in the snow.
Hu Lim/Korea has become very involved in
school clubs. She has made several friends and is
having a great time.
Ai/Japan’s host family invites family member s to
watch movies at their house in their pajamas on
Friday nights.
Andrea/Colombia is making new friends at
school. She decorated cookies for Christmas.
Moeka/Japan went to Seattle with friends and
family. She likes watching movies and hanging
out.
Mai/Japan is having a great time in her band
class. Santa brought her an IPOD for Christmas.
Robert/Germany has been playing basketball,
practicing the saxophone and was surprised to
dream in English for the first time.
Batkhuu/Mongolia is participating in the River
Ridge
High School theater productions of Student
Works and Oklahoma.
