FAROE ISLANDS
Growing more than 10pc
Vagar Airport on the Faroe
Islands shows until November 1.
an increase of over 10 pc.
Including October, the airport expects
to equal the total passengerfigure of the
whole of 2014.
This means, that the airport before the
last two months of the year will pass last
year`s by some 30.000 passengers
Jakup Sverri Kass, CEO of the airport:
“This means we hope to pass 280.000
pax in 2015, which will make the airport
number 4 in the Danish Kingdom with international
pax after we last year passed
Aarhus Airport on international pax. And
please remember we have a catchmenarea
of 50.000, while Aarhus has 300.000. Our
ambition grow more and overtake Aarhus
Airport in total figures before long.”
Both domestic and tourists have well
received the new terminal. Travelers thrive
at the facilities and the new tax-free shop
has become a big source of income for the
operation of the airport and is part of the
basis for further development of Vagar
Airport. Vagar Airport has already announced
that the airport will expand
New airlines are often visiting the islands in the North Atlantic.
the parking lot so that you go from good
380 parking spaces for about 800 parking
spaces.
“A better revenue base has made it possible
for Vagar Airport to lower the total
passenger fee from 185DKK to 165DKK.
In addition, the airport has given Atlantic
Airways big discounts on the new routes
to Edinburgh, Mallorca and Barcelona.
Atlantic Airways has also got a special discount
on the improved frequenser Bergen
and Reykjavik,” the director says.
The airport is using close to 4 M DKK to
lower passenger fees and support Atlantic
Airways this year. Next year the airport is
planing to increase support for new directroutes
that are believed to benefit the Faroese
tourism industry.
