Date label tips
TIP: Date labels can be confusing,
but the only one worth noting is
the “Use By” date. Food can be
eaten or frozen right up to the
end of the “use by” date.
TIP: Look out for “previously frozen”
labels on meat and fish. Remember
that meat can ONLY be safely frozen
twice, so if your product is previously
frozen, make sure not to end up
with leftovers.
TIP: “Best Before” dates are only
indicators of optimum freshness.
While sandwich bread has a “Best
Before” date, do use or freeze it
quickly before it goes mouldy.
TIP: “Sell By” and “Display Until”
dates can be ignored as they are for
shop staff, not for shoppers.
