Starry Night Auction
Alis Whitman
The theme of this year’s Lakeside auction is Starry Night, based on the painting by Vincent
Van Gogh. Every student at Lakeside submitted a piece of artwork. The results were fantastic.
The hallways at Lakeside are always covered with artwork, but the Starry Night projects
displayed were a sight beyond belief. We are proud of our students’ work, but we had to
choose one piece for the cover of the invitation.
The featured piece was by Jillian Bullen, fifth-grade. Runners up were first-grader Maeryn
Gull, and second-grader Quinlan Fafard.
We invite members of the mountain community to join us for a fabulous evening of dinner,
libations, and “fun-raising” to ensure that the children of Lakeside will continue to benefit
from enrichment programs. Our event will be held on Saturday, May 12, from 5 to 9 p.m.
at Las Cumbres Community Center, 18260 Las Cumbres Road. RSVP by May 4 at the
Lakeside School office. Cost is $25 per person if reserved, $30 at the door.
Lakeside Students Play in the “Superior” Rolling Hills Symphonic Band
Ralph Becker-Szendy
Lakeside Elementary students can attend grades 6 through 8 at Rolling Hills Middle School in Campbell. Many Lakeside students take
part in the band program at Rolling Hills under band director Mike Rawlinson. This spring, the Rolling Hills Symphonic Band visited
Disneyland, where they performed for the public and rehearsed with Disney staff musicians. On March 31, the Symphonic Band participated
in the California Music Educators Association Band Festival and competition, and received a ranking of “superior.” Lakeside students in the
Symphonic Band include Emmy Delaney (alto saxophone), Anders Rosenquist (trumpet), and John Becker (tuba).
Several students from the Rolling Hills Symphonic Band also took part in the Music Educators Association’s solo and ensemble festival at
San Jose State University. Two young musicians achieved the rare highest award, a “superior command performance”: Lindsey Wyant, from
the Campbell school district on trumpet, and John Becker from the Lakeside school district on tuba.
Construction Update
On April 10, the LGUSD board of trustees
voted not to pursue the additional geological
analysis required to rebuild Lexington on
its current site. They voted to move the
students indefinitely down to the Fisher
Middle School campus at the end of this
school year, where they will be housed in
a combination of portables and a newly
constructed building at the site.
The Friends of Lexington urge the
mountain community to help them
overturn these decisions as they impact not
only Lexington families, but also our entire
community. To learn more, please visit www.
