It’s been a busy end of year for the Randwick School band program with both bands juggling busy performance schedules. Last month the Combined Performance Band was invited to perform at the 100 th Anniversary of Vaucluse House as a museum. The Randwick band were part of all day celebration on a beautiful sunny Sunday to mark the occasion. If you‘re keen to catch a live performance, both bands will be performing on 14 th November at the St Jude’s Fete and the school’s annual End of Year Concert in the afternoon. They’ll also be making an appearance at the End of Year BBQ on 27 th November. ENROL NOW! If you want your child to be part of Randwick’s excellent band program in 2016, enrolments are underway right now for the Training Band which is open to students from Year 4 and above. If you missed the information night at the end of October, please send the Band Committee an email as soon as possible for more information: rpsbandconvener@ gmail.com. Finally, if you needed any persuasion about whether your child should join, here’s a note from our dynamic musical director Megan Lipworth about the great benefits of learning instrumental music: “Did you know that instrumental music is the only activity that has been empirically and scientifically proven to fire up every part of the brain at once? According to musical educator Richard Gill, instrumental music is often described as being at ‘the top of the educational food chain’. This is because instrumental music activities demands and stimulates the highest levels of intellectual, linguistic, mathematical, creative, independent and social skills, micro and macro coordination and aerobic training, as well as some of the most important personality traits, such as tenacity, patience, cooperation, ability to follow instructions, leadership, time management and self confidence, ... the list is endless! “ Oh, and did we forget to say being in the band is lots of FUN? Well it is! We try and wrap up enrolments and allocate instruments by the end of this term so the sooner you make contact with us the better.
