School location:
THE SCHOOL AND THE PROGRAM
The school is a 2 story building with 12 classrooms. It is located in the old
part of downtown Cancun, very close to banks, supermarkets, bus stops,
etc.
There is also a student residence building on the school campus.
LANGUAGE PROGRAM
SPANISH INSTRUCTION:
We have found the best way to learn Spanish is for the student to have
total immersion in the language, culture, society and customs of Mexico.
Our method of using small groups (3-6 students per class) and the special
class dynamic will facilitate learning to speak and understand Spanish and
become acquainted with Mexican culture in the shortest possible time.
Instead of a traditional grammar program, classes are designed to provide
a fully balanced intensive immersion experience for our students. This
means that they incorporate all aspects of language acquisition:
conversation, grammar, reading, writing, general comprehension and
idiomatic expressions. In addition to formal textbooks, we use a wide
variety of current materials: newspapers, literature, audiocassettes, videos,
advertisements, music, short stories and more. Classes also incorporate
field-trips and out-of-class learning experiences by taking students to
practice their Spanish in marketplaces, museums, buses, restaurants, and
others areas where communication practice is a necessity. Thus classes
remain interesting as well as educational!

TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS:
El Bosque del Caribe professors have university degrees with teaching
certification. They have also completed our “Spanish as a Second
Language” intensive training course in addition to various professional
development workshops both nationally and internationally. These
include the ACTFL (American Council for the Teaching of Foreign
Languages)-sponsored seminar in the U.S.A.
CLASS PLACEMENT:
Upon arrival you will be given an oral and written placement exam to
determine which level is most suitable for you. These exams are given
every Monday at 7:45 am before classes begin; students need to be
punctual in order to be assigned a level for that week. The exams ensure
an effective learning environment in a class appropriate to your
knowledge of Spanish. The Academic Director is always available for
consultations and to reevaluate your placement should you feel that you
have been placed in an unsuitable level.
CLASS STRUCTURE:
Classes consist of groups ranging from 1 to 6 students, the average group
size being 3 to 4 for most of the year, except during high season ( June-
August), when 5 to 6 is the norm. The minimum age in order to be
considered for study is 18 (exceptions can be made under special
circumstances pursuant to interview and recommendations).
Classes run from 8:00 am to 1.00 or 2.00 pm, depending on the course
type.
STARTING DATES:
Programs start every Monday (see “National Holidays” for exceptions).
The average length of stay is from one to two months, but students may
elect to take anywhere from 1 week to 1 year depending on their needs.
Those students taking only one week often find that a schedule of group
plus some private classes enables them to get the most out of their stay
here.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
The school can arrange a variety of accommodations for you (rates below
on application form):
HOME STAYS:
A key part of our program is the home stays we offer with selected
families.. All students are encouraged to participate in this opportunity, as it
provides an invaluable source of Spanish instruction as well as a wonderful
interpersonal experience. In general, home stays are regarded as the most
effective way to put into practice the Spanish you learn in the classroom.
Living with a family who speaks no English, in combination with intensive
study, provides a wholly integrated exposure to both the language and the
culture. In this way the learning process is greatly facilitated, as is the
speed with which fluency is acquired.
Home stays also provide an economical alternative to hotels, as breakfast,
dinner, private room are all included in the price. Probably the most
valuable aspect of the home stay experience, however, is the opportunity
to really get to know a Mexican family, making many new friends and
experiencing first-hand the famous Mexican warmth and hospitality!

Visa:
Tourist visa:
You need to go to a Mexican consulate abroad to ask about the
requirements and to take the necessary steps to get your visa. The
requirements differ from country to country.
If you are a citizen of Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France,
Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Island, Israel, Italy,
Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand,

Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia,
Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, United States of America,
Uruguay or Venezuela, you don’t need a visa to enter Mexico, although you
must present a valid passport and fill out an immigration form for tourists
and business trips, which can be obtained in travel agencies, airlines or at
the point where you enter Mexico.
The immigration department of Cancún offers a 30 - 90 day tourist visa for
most of the countries in the world. The visa form will be given to you on
the airplane before landing in Mexico. Students who take courses lasting
more than the length of time indicated on their visa will need an extension
issued by the Mexican immigration office in Cancún. The school can help
you obtain it, the cost of the extension is U$ 22.- which is charged by the
government
For more information regarding visa requirements you can check the
following web site :
http://www.sre.gob.mx/english/services/visasforeigners.htm#1
Special visa:
There are some countries who need a visa in order to enter to Mexico. The
visa has to be required in your home country. Often times the request is,
that a physical person living in Mexico has to be responsible for the visa
applier during his/her stay in Mexico. The school can not offer this
responsibility as there is a an over U$ 3000.- Dollar amount to be paid to
the government as a deposit.
HOW TO PLAN YOUR TRIP :
The best way to plan for your trip is to buy a comprehensive travel guide,
which will inform you on the history of the country, the people, sociopolitical
trends, and other important information. This will also give you
concrete ideas about what you want to see while in Mexico and about trips
for weekends, afternoon tours, and anything else you would like to plan.
The next step is to find a reliable travel agent who can help you with
tickets. We recommend using local travel agencies for tours as it generally
significantly cheaper than arranging them from abroad, and you will also

have the advantage of not being stuck to a pre-set schedule. The Internet
also has a wealth of information on every aspect of travel in Mexico.
Other well-known agencies include Council Travel and STA, which have
offices in most major cities in North America and Europe. Another option is
to go directly through the airline, although international regulations may
prevent them from direct-selling at the wholesale prices that travel agents
can offer you.
HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE SCHOOL :
Students may receive email, mail, faxes and emergency telephone calls
(English, Spanish, French and German) as follows.
MAIL: Avenida Nader # 52, SM 3, Cancun, Q.Roo, Mexico 77500
PHONE/FAX: +(52) 998 884 10 65 Fax: (52) 998 892 75 48
ABOUT CANCUN AND ITS SURROUNDINGS:
Cancún is located at the south-eastern tip of the Yucatan peninsula, in the
state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The Hotel-Zone is situated on a peninsula,
approximately 20 km long and 400 m wide, surrounded by the turquoise
waters of the Caribbean sea. All the beaches are free to the public. Buses
run every 3 to 5 minutes between the Hotel-Zone (beaches) and
downtown. Cancún has an excellent climate with plenty of sunshine and
temperatures around 29 degrees Celsius (85 F.), and ocean temperatures
about 25-28 degrees (78-83 F).
Islands:
Isla Mujeres is a small island about 12 miles from the coast of the Yucatan
peninsula. It is a nice place for snorkeling only 20 minutes by boat from
Puerto Juárez in Cancún.
Cozumel is a beautiful island with spectacular coral reefs and great nature.
A one-hour drive from Cancun takes you to Playa del Carmen where you

can take the ferry that leaves every hour for a 45 minute boat ride to
Cozumel.
Mayan Sites: Tulúm is the only Mayan site located on the coast, a little over
one hour south of Cancun by car or bus. Cobá is in the middle of the
jungle, 30 minutes beyond Tulúm. Chichen-Itzá, one of the most important
Mayan sites with spectacular pyramids, is a two-hour drive from Cancún on
the road to Mérida.
