GREYHOUNDS FIGHTING FOR PLAYOFFS
east vs. west matchup sees conference leading frontenacs TAKE ON 7th place greyhounds
With the Frontenacs leading the Eastern Conference
with 41 points in 30 games this season, the
story is a little different for the Greyhounds in the
Western Conference. With 29 points in 29 games,
the Greyhounds are neck-in-neck with the Owen
Sound Attack battling for 7th place. Saginaw only sits
5 points back with 24 in 9th place and out of the last
playoff spot.
The Eastern Ontario road trip for the Greyhounds
started on the right foot last night in Peterborough,
where the Greyhounds easily beat the Petes 4-1 for
their 4th straight victory and improve their record in
their last 10 games to 5 wins, 4 regulation losses, and
1 overtime loss.
Since last Friday’s overtime loss to the Peterborough
Petes, the Kingston Frontenacs have 2 road
wins–an overtime victory last Sunday in Hamilton
and a regular win on Wednesday night in Ottawa. The
Frontenacs are heading into a 7 game stretch where
they will be without some top players–including Lawson
Crouse, Roland McKeown, Spencer Watson, and
Juho Lammikko–away at the World Juniors selection
camps, and others–Graeme Brown and Chad Duchesne–due
to some injuries.
The Eastern Conference is still very close this season—the
top 6 teams are only separated by 8 points.
FAMILY TIME: Look for two Verbeek’s on the ice
tonight, with Hayden Verbeek, younger brother of
Kingston Frontenac Ryan Verbeek, part of the Greyhound
roster. In 24 games this season, the Kingston
native has 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points for Sault
Ste. Marie. KF
