First to Believe<br />

When the Holy Prophet sa announced that Allah the<br />

Almighty had raised him as a Prophet, <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra<br />

happened to be away from Makkah. Upon his return, a group of<br />

Makkan chiefs, including ‘Amr bin Hisham (<strong>Abu</strong> Jahl) * , ‘Utbah<br />

and Shaibah, came to visit him and told him scornfully that <strong>Abu</strong><br />

Talib’s nephew had claimed that he was a Prophet.<br />

After the chiefs left, <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra went straight to<br />

the Holy Prophet sa and asked him whether he had claimed to be<br />

a Prophet from God. The Holy Prophet sa started to explain, but<br />

<strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra interrupted him and asked once more if he had<br />

* ‘Amr bin Hisham was very powerful among the Quraish who called him <strong>Abu</strong>l-Hakam (Father of<br />

Wisdom), but because of his cruelty toward the Holy Prophet sa and his followers, the Muslims called<br />

him <strong>Abu</strong> Jahl (Father of Ignorance). (Publishers)
