HADRAT ABU BAKR<br />
When you implored the help of your Lord, and He answered you<br />
saying:<br />
I will help you with a thousand of the angels.<br />
Coming one after another.<br />
(Surah Al-Anfal, 8:10)<br />
And, indeed, Allah helped him with angels.<br />
The Holy Prophet sa was still praying when Allah informed him<br />
that the Muslims would win the battle. After finishing the prayer, he<br />
turned to <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra and said, “Soon the disbelievers will be<br />
defeated and will run away from the battlefield.” On the battlefield,<br />
the companions of the Holy Prophet sa built a temporary shelter for<br />
him. 19 As long as the Holy Prophet sa stayed in the shelter, <strong>Hadrat</strong><br />
<strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra , sword in hand, stood there to guard him.<br />
Once <strong>Hadrat</strong> ‘Ali ra was asked who was the bravest companion<br />
of the Holy Prophet sa . <strong>Hadrat</strong> ‘Ali ra responded that <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong><br />
<strong>Bakr</strong> ra was the most courageous of them all. <strong>Hadrat</strong> ‘Ali ra then<br />
explained, “During the Battle of Badr, when we built a shelter for<br />
the Holy Prophet sa , the question arose of who would stay with him.<br />
<strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra volunteered and unsheathed his sword, standing<br />
guard. Therefore, he is rightfully called the most courageous.”<br />
In line with the Arab tradition, the battle began with oneon-one<br />
combat before the regular fighting broke out. <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong>
