HADRAT ABU BAKR<br />
about himself and that he was revealing that he would pass away<br />
soon, but <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra understood and started to cry. The<br />
Holy Prophet sa consoled <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra , and then said, “Close<br />
all the other people’s doors to the mosque, but leave the door open<br />
for <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra .” On another occasion, he said, “There is nobody<br />
who I am more indebted to than <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra .” 26<br />
When the Holy Prophet sa became seriously ill, he ordered,<br />
“Tell <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra to lead the people in prayer.” So until the Holy<br />
Prophet sa died, <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra would lead the prayers. One day<br />
<strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra was leading the prayer when the Holy Prophet sa<br />
left his room and came to the mosque. When <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra<br />
realised that the Holy Prophet sa had entered the mosque, he began<br />
to step aside to allow him to lead. The Holy Prophet sa , put his hand<br />
on <strong>Hadrat</strong> <strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong>’s ra back and said, “No, continue leading the<br />
prayer.” Saying this he seated himself on the right side of <strong>Hadrat</strong><br />
<strong>Abu</strong> <strong>Bakr</strong> ra and performed his prayer. 27<br />
Upon returning from the mosque, the Holy Prophet sa lay<br />
down. For some time he felt better. He got a miswak (branch of<br />
a tree specially used for cleaning teeth) from <strong>Hadrat</strong> ‘A’ishah ra to<br />
brush his teeth and while saying,<br />
