Tell Us: NEW OVERTIME RULE IMPACT<br />

The Obama administration has proposed new overtime regulations that could impact<br />

employers and employees. The proposal is a rule change which increases the salary<br />

threshold making millions more employees eligible for overtime compensation by<br />

reducing the number of employees who can currently be exempt.<br />

Under the proposal, the current threshold for executive, administrative and professional<br />

employees would increase from their current level of $23,660 to $50,440. Employers<br />

could be forced to make decisions to re-classify their employees to non-exempt status or<br />

increase their salaries to retain exempt status. Reclassification to non-exempt status<br />

means employees will be required to track their hours and “punch a clock” getting paid<br />

for only the hours they have worked.<br />

This is a significant change that will have an impact on business operations and economy<br />

nationwide. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce suggests that such a shift would lead to<br />

negative effects for employees losing flexibility, benefits, hours, growth opportunities<br />

and earning potential.<br />

The Dubuque Area Chamber has concerns on how this proposed rule change could<br />

impact our members and business community. The attached Overtime Regulation<br />

Impact Questionnaire is designed to help you determine the impact of this proposal on<br />

your operations. We want to help you understand and plan for any proposed changes<br />

ahead. More importantly we want to share your feedback with members of Congress to<br />

demonstrate how this rule will affect our business community. With your help we can<br />

build a case and echo the concerns to describe the impact of this proposal.<br />

Please send us your findings after the completing the questionnaire and we will collectively<br />

submit to our legislators.<br />

The Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce is<br />

launching a 2nd B2B Referral Group!<br />

The goal of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce B2B Referral Group is to<br />

connect members to potential clients by exchanging referrals with other area<br />

professionals.<br />

The new group will be meeting every Tuesday from 11:30am to 12:30pm in<br />

the Chamber Boardroom.<br />

Qualifications<br />

• Participating organizations must be current on their annual membership investment<br />

with the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce.<br />

• Only one representative per business category may participate in any group.<br />

• Only one representative per business or organization may participate in the group.<br />

• Participating organizations may only participate in one referral group.<br />

Responsibilities<br />

• Be an official representative of a business or organization that is an active and current<br />

member of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce.<br />

• Attend at least three of the four weekly meetings.<br />

• Provide a minimum of 3 referrals per month.<br />

Bob Peacock<br />

SEPTEMBER 18, 1955 - DECEMBER 5, 2015<br />

Bob was not only my friend and neighbor for over 50 years, but he was my<br />

brother that I never had because I grew up with twin sisters and I was a<br />

brother to Bob because he grew up with 1 sister. We had each other’s<br />

back for those 50 years and after he passed away so suddenly, I knew his<br />

involvement with the chamber was extraordinary. When Barry called me<br />

and told me about the DWTS, I couldn’t leave my brother hanging with an<br />

incomplete fund-raiser. I later found out that his wife Diane asked to have<br />

me step in for him as well, so together Diane and I will continue his<br />

passion for the Dubuque Symphony and the DWTS.<br />

Bob was bigger than life. To me, he was a gentle man with a big heart<br />

and would not hesitate to help anybody in need. He learned that from his<br />

parents who were my second set of parents as well. We had so many<br />

memorable moments together and he truly loved Dubuque. He would<br />

have been the last guy to shut out the lights when Dubuque was struggling<br />

in the 80’s. Our community lost an Ambassador, the Chamber lost a<br />

supportive friend, Diane lost a dedicated husband, Clint and Emily lost a<br />

precious parent, Owen lost a proud Grandpa, and I lost a brother.<br />
