Recycle Your Income
buy local
The local multiplier effect is a
In a community that values the
principles of sustainability, there
may be no greater act than local
purchases of goods and services.
We recycle our cans, bottles and
paper, why not recycle and control
our incomes?? Recirculated
income, or the process in which
dollars are exchanged within
one’s local economy before leaving
through the purchase of an
import, adds significant value to
our community.
valuable hidden feature to our
local economy. It states; for
every $1.00 spent at a locally-owned
business, 68 cents
stays in the local economy….3
times more than chain stores
Spending
$100 at a local business
puts
and 100 times more than
spending outside your community.
Those dollars work for
our community over and
over…..each dollar spent locally
returns up to $5! Buying locally
supports jobs and wages, preserves
local charm and character,
increases product diversity,
creates a competitive marketplace,
supports public services
and reduces public costs,
enhances quality of life and
promotes environmental
sustainability. You can give a
gift that rewards everyone. We
can recycle our incomes over
and over and help build a more
vibrant community and economy.
This holiday season support
the businesses who support
the area where you live,
work and play….Eat Local, Enjoy
Local, Buy Local and Be Local
this holiday season.
Tell Us: NEW OVERTIME RULE IMPACT
The Obama administration has proposed new overtime regulations that could impact
employers and employees. The proposal is a rule change which increases the salary
threshold making millions more employees eligible for overtime compensation by
reducing the number of employees who can currently be exempt.
Under the proposal, the current threshold for executive, administrative and professional
employees would increase from their current level of $23,660 to $50,440. Employers
could be forced to make decisions to re-classify their employees to non-exempt status or
increase their salaries to retain exempt status. Reclassification to non-exempt status
means employees will be required to track their hours and “punch a clock” getting paid
for only the hours they have worked.
This is a significant change that will have an impact on business operations and economy
nationwide. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce suggests that such a shift would lead to
negative effects for employees losing flexibility, benefits, hours, growth opportunities
and earning potential.
The Dubuque Area Chamber has concerns on how this proposed rule change could
impact our members and business community. The attached Overtime Regulation
Impact Questionnaire is designed to help you determine the impact of this proposal on
your operations. We want to help you understand and plan for any proposed changes
ahead. More importantly we want to share your feedback with members of Congress to
demonstrate how this rule will affect our business community. With your help we can
build a case and echo the concerns to describe the impact of this proposal.
Please send us your findings after the completing the questionnaire and we will collectively
submit to our legislators.
Please feel free to contact us with
any questions.
Bob Peacock
SEPTEMBER 18, 1955 - DECEMBER 5, 2015
Bob was not only my friend and neighbor for over 50 years, but he was my
brother that I never had because I grew up with twin sisters and I was a
brother to Bob because he grew up with 1 sister. We had each other’s
back for those 50 years and after he passed away so suddenly, I knew his
involvement with the chamber was extraordinary. When Barry called me
and told me about the DWTS, I couldn’t leave my brother hanging with an
incomplete fund-raiser. I later found out that his wife Diane asked to have
me step in for him as well, so together Diane and I will continue his
passion for the Dubuque Symphony and the DWTS.
Bob was bigger than life. To me, he was a gentle man with a big heart
and would not hesitate to help anybody in need. He learned that from his
parents who were my second set of parents as well. We had so many
memorable moments together and he truly loved Dubuque. He would
have been the last guy to shut out the lights when Dubuque was struggling
in the 80’s. Our community lost an Ambassador, the Chamber lost a
supportive friend, Diane lost a dedicated husband, Clint and Emily lost a
precious parent, Owen lost a proud Grandpa, and I lost a brother.
