Faith Sarisky receives Hall of Fame Award
After 13 years as Co-owner/Broker of Realty World Country Classic
Realty in Mt. Bethel, Faith Sarisky made the difficult decision to
reunite her loyal customers with the strongest real estate company
in the world Re/Max. Faith is proud to be able to offer the benefits
and strong financial backing of a proven real estate leader.
RE/MAX of the Poconos is her real estate home, however, Faith
continues to dominate the Slate Belt area in her marketing efforts.
Her affiliation with the Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors,
Pocono Mountain Association of Realtors and Garden State
Association of Realtors will give her clients the benefit of 3 times
the marketing exposure than most other real estate companies.
Recently, Faith had the distinguished honor of receiving the Hall of
Fame Award. This coveted award is presented to agents who have
earned over 1,000,000 in real estate commission while employed
with Re/max. While only 20% of agents sell 80% of the homes,
only 20% of those agents are successful enough to receive this
award. Faith's 23 years of full time
real estate experience can help you
with your next real estate transaction.
Make Your Big Day as Unique as You are!
(BPT) - Weddings are steeped in tradition - no matter
whom you are or where you live. But what if you're
not interested in wearing the same dress your
mother did, getting married in the same location your
sister did or wearing something blue? Don't worry,
you're not alone. Plenty of brides search for ways to
make their special day as unique as they are.
Here are five ways to put your own special spin on this classic tradition:
1.A guest book you'll use: Signing the guest book is a common
tradition at most weddings; you've probably signed a few in your
lifetime. After the wedding is over, however, this priceless keepsake
often disappears into a box never to be seen again. Break from tradition
by creating a guest book you'll actually use. Take a trip to the book store
with your partner and browse the coffee table books. Once you find one
that interests both of you, claim it as your guest book. Your wedding
guests can sign their names in the margins and afterwards you'll be left
with a permanent, functional guest book to display for visitors and friends.
2.Dance under the stars: Looking to create a one-of-a-kind
wedding? Don't rent the same ballroom as all of your friends. Host your
reception outdoors. You can rent a dance floor from a local rental facility
and trained technicians will arrive to set it up easily. You'll dance on a
traditional wood floor while looking up at the stars - what could be more
original than that? Don't forget to rent a tent so that weather doesn't
dampen the mood. You can find more unique flooring ideas at RentalHQ.
com, where you can locate your local rental store.
3.Treasure the memories: Get your guests involved in the event by
placing blank cards and pens at each seat location. Ask your guests to
write about their favorite memory of you and/or your spouse. Collect all
of these cards and turn them into a scrapbook for a treasured keepsake.
4.Prepare a menu that is uniquely you: Chocolate fountains were
once unique and elegant, but now they're commonplace. Don't despair,
though, because there are plenty of unique edible snack options you
can include in your special day. If you're getting married in the blistering
heat, rent a snow cone machine to offer your guests some sweet relief.
If you and your spouse are big movie buffs or your wedding has a
Hollywood theme, rent a popcorn machine to complete the look. And
for the bride who's still a kid at heart, nothing captures that better than
renting an authentic cotton candy machine.
5.Find the color that suits you: Maybe wearing something blue
doesn't suit you, but perhaps you're not too wild about black and white
either. At many venues, though, these colors are the only choices you
have when it comes to tablecloths and napkins. Remember, you don't
have to settle; you can provide your own materials simply by renting
them. This opens up a color palette of limitless options. If you are
planning a fall wedding, look for napkins that reflect the colors of the
leaves. Did you meet in college? Choose linens in your school's colors.
Whatever shade speaks to you, you can find it and give your wedding a
look no one will expect.
Keep the tradition, but be uniquely you with
options limited only by your own imagination.
To learn more about what you can rent and how renting can help
you create the wedding you've always wanted, visit RentalHQ.com.

“Supporting women with cancer and their families,
community that supports us.”
Pink Heals is a National not-for-profit organization
focused on community. A group of fire fighters, police
officers, local government officials and volunteers that
Whether you are going to a farm, farmers market, or a pumpkin patch
here are a few tips to help you pick the perfect pumpkin:
• Select a pumpkin that is perfectly orange. A partially green
pumpkin may not ripen.
• Size is also important. Medium pumpkins are the best size for
carving and small pumpkins are better for cooking and for baking.
• Selecting the shape of a pumpkin is a personal choice. Some like
them tall, others like them round or oddly shaped the choice is yours!
• Do not lift or carry a pumpkin by it's stem.
• A ripe pumpkin will have a hard shell that usually will not dent or
scratch easily when pressing on it with your thumb.
Happy Pumpkin picking!
JUICING 101: JUICE CLEANSING
By Jackie Talero-Rueda, The Crunchy Mom
Juice cleansing is a great way to reset your body. This
should be done with caution because during a juice
cleanse, or liquid diet, you don’t consume anything
but Juice for one to five days. Juice cleansing gives
the body a break and helps it detoxify and repair. Even if you eat healthy
and exercise you can benefit from doing a cleanse to flush out the toxins
that are hidden in your cells, tissues, and organs. After the holidays or an
alcohol filled weekend is also a good time to cleanse the body. When you
cleanse you replace meals that are processed and full of junk with clean
healthy food. You are giving your digestive system a break and resetting
it. To do a juice cleanse you should pre-cleanse a couple days before by
eliminating all the inflammatory and processed foods from the diet. Some
of these foods are and not limited to Alcohol, caffeine, corn, milk, eggs,
gluten, red meat and sugar. Eliminating these foods a few days before
allows you to drink large quantities of juice without shocking your body,
especially for beginners. Making the decision on how many days to do
a cleanse is up to you. Never do more than your body can handle. Try it
out for a full day and see how you feel. Extend it to three days. Maybe
the next time you can do a 5 day cleanse. If you aren’t ready to do a juice
cleanse then juice all day until dinner. Have a sensible dinner to give your
body fuel to replenish. There are many cleanses out there that you can do
for various days and different recipes. I would make sure to find a cleanse
that is for beginners as these tend to have juices with more calories and
include soups and smoothies. Cleansing can cause side effects in the
beginning from detoxing such as headaches, changes in digestion, skin
breakouts, irritability and weight changes. Do not exercise while doing
a cleanse. Your body is receiving less calories than it’s used to and any
extra calorie burning activities are a recipe for disaster. Always check
with your doctor to give you the okay on starting any cleanse.
September is World Alzheimer's Month By Michelle Seitzer
Every 67 seconds someone develops Alzheimer's. Someone's grandpa.
Someone's husband. Someone's brother, best friend, or boss. That
someone's world is forever changed by an Alzheimer's diagnosis, and
around the world, families are forever changed by this devastating disease.
September is World Alzheimer's Month, and many people around the world
wear purple to honor someone with Alzheimer's on September 21st for
World Alzheimer's Day. But on October 1st, when World Alzheimer's Month
is over, things don't go back to normal for families impacted by Alzheimer's
Disease. Things stay the same, or they get worse. For a caregiver of a
person with Alzheimer's, the days are just as long and hard after World
Alzheimer's Month is over. There is still no cure for Alzheimer's, still no
effective treatment to keep the symptoms from interfering with one's daily
life, one's lifelong memories. But there is something you can do if you know
someone who has Alzheimer's - whether it's World Alzheimer's Month or
not. Reach out. Offer encouragement to the person living with Alzheimer's,
or support for their caregivers. Alzheimer's has changed your life and theirs
dramatically, but that doesn't have to change your relationship. If you know
someone who isn't sure what to do about a recent diagnosis, or someone
who is worried that they may need to be diagnosed, tell them to call the
Alzheimer's Association Helpline. It's free to call, and someone is available
24-7, 365 days a year, to answer questions and point to resources.
Carpools And School Buses: Tips For Arriving To School Safely And On Time
(BPT) - Your children are getting older and response time improved up to a full second or more. At highway
with each new grade level they want more speeds, that is almost four car lengths of extra stopping distance.
independence. You're OK with that, but you • Don't drive distracted. Focus on something other than the road and
still get a little worried when you think about you or your teen risks causing an accident. When operating a motor
safety precautions and you'll make sure your independent student is your teen reach the destination.
there and ready to focus on schoolwork each and every morning. How to keep the bus ride safe and simple:
Tips for traveling by car:
• Head out early. Make sure your kids give themselves plenty of time
• Take your time. Leaving plenty of time to arrive at school ensures no to get to the bus stop in the morning. Rushing to the stop can lead to
one will be late. It also prevents the driver from speeding, or failing to accidents, especially if kids must cross a street or two.
look before changing lanes or pulling into an intersection.
• Help the driver. Children should stay 10 giant steps away did this
• Make sure the car is ready. Sometimes the weather conditions are • Wait their turn. Children who run toward the bus as it is pulling into
Boost Your Pet's Health with these Preventive Measures
(BPT) - Taking active, preventive measures to
support your health is one of the most important
things you can do to ward off serious illness. You
eat right, exercise, brush your teeth and make
sure to get plenty of sleep, all to keep your body
running at its very best. But did you know that preventive health
is important not only for you but also for the lifelong health of your
pets? Instituting preventive health measures for your pets helps
keep them in top physical shape and live healthier, happier lives.
Here are three key areas of preventive health for your pet.
• Annual checkups: You know you should see your doctor once
a year for your annual checkup and the same applies for your pet.
In fact, an annual checkup may be even more important for them
than it is for you. "Dogs and cats age much faster than people so
missing one yearly appointment for your pet could be comparable
to missing five annual checkups for yourself," says Dr. Ellen Lowery,
associate director of U.S. Veterinary and Professional Affairs at Hill's
Pet Nutrition. The best way to prevent disease is to schedule regular
checkups with your veterinarian. Bringing your pet for an annual
health examination allows your veterinarian to assess any risk
factors and spot problems at their earliest stages. This will help your
pet live a happier, healthier and longer life.
• Get plenty of exercise: Exercise has numerous health benefits
not only for your body but for your pet as well. If you have a family
dog, walking him or her twice a day for 15 minutes is generally
advised. The number and length of walks may increase or decrease
depending on the breed, health and age of your dog. Make sure to
brush and bathe your dog as well, especially if a recent walk has
brought him or her in contact with tall grassy or forested areas or
involved wading or swimming. Cats, of course, do not need to be
walked, but that doesn't mean you can disregard their exercise.
Engage your cat in active play, whether it is chasing a stuffed toy
at the end of a stick or batting a ball of catnip around the kitchen.
Either way, your cat is being active and that is good for his or her
overall health.
• Offer a nutritious diet: "Proper nutrition is a cornerstone of pet
health," Dr. Lowery says. "Pet parents should choose a quality pet
food that provides optimal nutrition for their pet's specific life stage
and activity or special needs." Your veterinary healthcare team is
your best resource for selecting the right food to feed your pet and
will also provide education and guidance on the how much and
when to feed your pet for optimal health. For additional information
on helping your pet achieve a healthy weight, visit Healthy Weight
Calculator at Pet360.com.
Preventive care is just as important for your pet as it is for you.
The good news is that the same preventive care principles that
benefit you also benefit your pets. You can take the right preventive
approach for your pet with annual checkups, daily exercise and a
nutritious diet, and both you and your pet will be feeling even better.
With third marking period grades in, it’s obvious my
son has pulled himself up and out of the ashes of last
marking periods troubling report card. Yes, even kids
with gifted IQ fall off the good grade wagon, especially
as the subject matter gets more challenging and
they’re use to not having to put in much effort because
school work always came easy. This issue has caused
my son to hit the wall quite a few times in middle
school. Add to this the issues of poor planning, not
willing to ask for help or distractions, particularly of the
electronic type. As with all kids, when my son applies
himself he does quite well. The problem is getting him
to apply himself when his mind keeps wandering to the
world of Minecraft, Pokemon or Skylanders. His desire
to live in the electronic world, whether it’s simply
surfing the great wide web or playing video games,
far exceeds his desire to give more than the minimal
when it comes to his school work. Not that he doesn’t
like school. He loves learning. His mind is a sponge. He
just doesn’t want to do the work that comes with it. He
wants to learn the info, process it and move on.
My sons poor report card lead to a complete ban of all
things electronic. Mom became the keeper of his laptop,
iPod Touch, wii remotes, and DS’s. During this ban, he
was only allowed to use his laptop for school work and
when I was present. There was much whining at times,
particularly during his down time. He would infer there
wasn’t anything to do. At that point, I would tell him I
would get rid of all his Legos, art stuff, books, guitar,
African drum, board games, etc… I’m sure you get my
point. My goal was to hopefully have him reconnect
with the things that motivated him before video games
entered his world. Note, I tried
hard to keep these “brain sucking”
devices out of our home. My son was
7 when he got his first game system,
a DS, which in gamer years is old.
The wii didn’t enter our home till he
Zombified Video
Game Players
was 12 and I was hesitant because I
had already seen addictive behavior
rearing it’s ugly head when he
played the DS. All the other devices were purchased, in
the past two years, with money he saved from birthdays
and Christmas. That in itself is a worthy trait, it’s just
too bad the money is usually spent on electronics.
The reversal of troubling grades means the moratorium
on electronics has been lifted. Lord help me. Even
with our “What would Carl do?” breakthrough, when
video games are involved all bets are off. My son is
like a junky in need of a fix. This past marking period
was the equivalent of going to rehab for him. A rehab
that reinforced his problem with self-control. On more
than one occasion during this ban, he was busted for
searching my room for his hidden electronics, which
not only threatened an extended ban, it broke the trust
between him and I. (Don’t know why he even tries, he
always gets busted.) This trust has been broken and
rebuilt more than once over the course of his gaming
years. Stressing the importance of trust is a tough thing,
particularly when a lack of self-control is what triggers
IT’S A MATTER OF TRUST
PUBLISHED: February 14, 2014 - wakingthewalker.wordpress.com
the action that breaks the trust. I wonder, can pushing
the trust issue make him aware of his self-control
problem, particularly with electronics? Only time will tell.
My son does understand how important trust between
us is, and we have had multiple discussions about it,
but when his electronic addiction bites, the infection
spreads quickly. Causing my sometimes rationally
minded son to turn into a rabid zombie. He’s in a
trance, staring into the glow of his electronic device,
growling and hissing if he’s interrupted. (Beware he
bites!) Nothing exists but the world on that screen.
Breaking into that world and pulling him into the world
of the living is next to impossible. That was until the
apocalyptic world of “The Walking Dead” became a
bonding agent for us. Somewhere in the peripheral
edges of his mind, the mention of anything TWD related
gets his attention enough to break the electronic hold.
So, I am again turning to this zombie apocalypse world
for guidance in tackling the trust issue.
Trust or the lack thereof, is the thread that weaves
through the storylines in “The Walking Dead.” I have
on more than one occasion pointed this little detail out
to my son. In particular, the trust between the father
and son characters of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl
(Chandler Riggs). Rick, having been separated from his
family at the beginning of the apocalypse, would have
become a zombie buffet if Glenn (Steven Yuen) hadn’t
trusted his instincts believing it would be OK to bring
Rick into his group. A group that would reunite Rick
with his wife and son, which was Rick’s ultimate goal,
in addition to surviving the apocalypse of course. Once
reunited, besides fighting off zombies and looking for a
safe haven, Rick’s real challenge was to hold his family
together and somehow keep his son from growing up
too fast. A feat that can be undaunting when one of your
daily tasks is killing the undead. Rick knew though, at
some point he would have to arm his son, (for me it was
what was the right age to give my son a cell phone), but
giving Carl a weapon, particularly a gun, was something
he wanted to hold off on until he believed he was mature
enough and could be trusted to use only in emergencies.
Thank God he did when he did though, because if
it wasn’t for Carl, Rick would have become zombie
Shane’s dinner. Father trusts son, son saves his life.
Carl has faced many serious “grown up” situations
in which he appeared to prove he was making a wise
choice when using his weapon. That was until he shot
an unarmed teenager during an ambush by another
group of survivors. (Yup, you have to fear the living too.)
Needless to say, this disturbed Rick, the trust between
he and Carl was broken. He took Carl’s gun, hung up his
own gun and stepped down as head of the group so he
could attempt to have a more “normal” relationship with
his son. Carl was not happy about losing his weapon,
(much like my son was about losing his electronics), but
over time he appeared to understand.
All seemed just ducky between these two until the
sanctuary they had created was destroyed by a
sociopath and they were on the run again. By this
point, Carl is a teenager and his actions and words
prove that even in a zombie apocalypse a teenager
can be an ungrateful snot nose. Going on a tirade, he
blames his father for everything that went wrong and
believes he could get by on his own without him. As his
father lays passed out from the injuries he sustained
during the attack, Carl goes on a scavenger hunt in
search of food. This adventure proves to be a little too
close for comfort for Carl, almost losing a battle with
a walker. Once back at the house they are squatting
in, a shaken Carl finds his father still passed out and
believes his father may have died and is turning into
a zombie. Holding a gun, ready to shoot, he has an
epiphany, realizing he would rather die at the hands
of his father than go on alone.
Fortunately, for Carl, Rick is
not dying, and the two can go
back to square one, rebuilding
the trust that was hanging on
by the flesh of a rotting zombie.
See, even in an apocalypse,
you can start anew.
Granted, we don’t have to face the extremes the
characters in “The Walking Dead” face, but I
have found some of these situations to be really
valid teaching tools. Or at least a door to open up
discussions with my son. My son relates to Carl, he and
the character are the same age, and seeing Carl diss
his father really upset him. “How could he do that?” he
said “that’s his dad.” Not that these two haven’t had
major issues pop up between them before this, but
they always seemed to have a genuine respect for each
other. And as long as there is respect, you can rebuild
the trust. This time though, Carl’s behavior was the
epitome of disrespect. I too was stunned. I commented
that he was behaving like a typical ungrateful teenager.
My son responded, “I know I couldn’t make it without
you.” I was speechless.
So, there is hope even on the darkest days – that your
“walker” will wake, having had the epiphany that
makes him realize the root to any healthy and happy
relationship is simply a matter of trust.
On a side note, it has been about two weeks since my
son has gotten his electronics back. With them came
new rules regarding time allotments and a log sheet to
track his time. The log sheet is my way of testing his
self-control. He has always used a timer, but he would
get so lost in his game that he wouldn’t even hear it,
so, my theory is if he actually has to log in a start and
stop time, he will be more conscious of actions, thus
keeping him from being consumed by his electronic
world. Will it work? Only time will tell. As can be
expected, my son wasn’t thrilled about any of the new
arrangements, but so far he is abiding by them. I’m
hoping that his recent epiphany plays a role in finding
a happy medium where electronics are concerned and
that there won’t be a need for rehab again. Although,
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Pinwheels For Peace
Mrs. Donna Mazzella, Art Teacher at Our Lady of Mt.
Carmel School, prepared the children for “Pinwheels
for Peace Day”. It is an art and literacy project that
allows students to express their feelings regarding
peace. On September 21, 2011, people in over
2,400 locations throughout the world “planted”
approximately a million pinwheels in public places,
in order to promote their thoughts and feelings about
peace. Students everywhere have been preparing for
International Day of Peace, scheduled for September
21, 2014, by creating
pinwheels. As part of the
creation process, students
write their thoughts
about peace, tolerance,
cooperation, harmony
and love on the side of
the pinwheel. On the
other side, students draw
to visually express their
feelings.
