Mega child care centre opens
NEW BUSINESS
By Di Bartok
JOAN Stone believes that to look after children
properly, you have to also care for their
parents.
The concept of helping parents enjoy
date nights, as well as having nutritious takehome
meals prepared for them, is virtually
unheard of in conventional childcare centres
and preschools.
But that holistic family care approach will
be very much evident at Joan’s newest preschool,
Young Scholars in Norwest Business
Park, set to open this month.
Centre owner, Joan said the centre, open
from 7am to 6pm weeknights, would stay open
later on Friday nights to allow parents to have a
date night.
“We believe that to look after children, you
need to also give parents a break - we really
like to be a family centre, as it is important for
children’s welfare to keep marriages together,”
Joan said.
“And we have arranged with the cafe opposite
for packaged meals to be made for parents
to take home for the family, again to take that
stress away from working parents.”
Mother of one and grandmother to three,
Joan knows all too well the pressure on working
parents.
She envisages that the scores of parents
working in the burgeoning Norwest Business
Park, and nearby, will appreciate to have a stateof-the-art
centre close to work.
“Having a good relationship with the medical
centre above us, means that children who
fall ill can be looked after adequately,” Joan said.
Inside the new child care centre at Norwest.
With 30 years’ experience at running
award-winning preschools and after and before
school care centres, the former primary and
high school teacher is raring to go with her
state-of-the-art centre that would be every
child’s dream.
I wanted to be a kid again after visiting
the pristine centre, with learning equipment
and toys all spanking new, waiting for eager
littlies to begin their adventure in learning
Olympic Park estate to include 5,500 apartments
AN old industrial estate near Sydney’s
Olympic Park is set to become one
of the state’s largest urban renewal
projects.s
The estate, part-owned by Goodman
Group, is set to include more than 5500
Centre owner, Joan Stone.
and socialising. Set in expansive 1100 sq ms
premises, Young Scholars has a room and
outdoor area for babies and the same for older
children.
There are also training rooms and office
space for staff and trainees. It really is some operation
this centre, ideally placed opposite Hills
Shire Council chambers in Columbia Court.
The holistic family philosophy aside, it is
the educational program that will be the real
apartments and a new commercial zone
NSW Planning and Transport Department
will dedicate more than $150 million
to building better transport links around
Goodman’s Carter Street industrial precinct
in Lidcombe, in addition to schools and a
drawcard to parents looking for more than a
run-of-the-mill childcare centre.
“At Young Scholars, children will learn
at their own pace, along the lines of Montessori
and Reggio Emilia self-guided learning
processes,” Joan said.
Young Scholars is licensed for 105 children
from six months up to school age.
