Pierre Marie Brisson (b. 1938)
Pierre Marie Brisson, a contemporary artist with a studio in the South of France, was born in Orleans, France. He began
to show an interest in painting at the age of 14. He met and studied with painter Bernard Saby during his teenage years,
and then settled in Paris in 1979, to study James Coignard, Antoni Clave, Joan Miró, and Antoni Tapies.
With simplified figures and extensive texturing, Brisson's works have been inspired by cave drawings and primitive art.
Their timeless appearances represent a kind of archeological dig for the artist; he cuts, scratches and pierces the multilayered
surfaces of his canvases to reveal imagery from within the strata of these materials. His work has evolved
tremendously over the 30 years FBG has represented him. His newest inspirations include dance and botanical forms.
Brisson’s work can be found in important museums including the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, The Jewish
Museum, New York, George Page Museum, Los Angeles, Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, Pushkin Museum, Moscow,
and the Paris Groupe Cartier, Paris.
